We’re a very good team - just missing more of a goal threat. The priority has to be to get a long term striker within the next 2 windows - don’t want to see any defenders or midfielders bought just get someone who can put the ball in the net please.

The DM space lack energy, charisma and forward movement. I don't see that changing at all this season, but we still have a great chance of winning because we look rock solid as a defensive line..
Exactly,"up to this season", hence why he is not a regular.
This is not an ideal time for a young kid to come into a team which whatever we want to think are in decline.
When these discussions come up I think back to the league cup final when we beat Arsenal 3-0. I was at the game but when I got home I started watching all the TV highlights. Somebody, it might have been Neville, made the point that in spite of all the expensive additions made to our squad, it was continually the old guard doing the business for us and winning games. The scorers that day were Aguero, Kompany and Silva, two sadly no longer with us. How true that statement has proved to be, all their replacements are a level below and as a consequence so are the team.

He'll never be ready until he's given a consistent run of games. However, Pep sees it as too much of a risk because apparently all the other players are playing so well.
Young payers are inconsistent, very inconsistent.
Foden looks world class in some games, then can disappear in others.

While he can make mistakes and lacks occasional consistency,he has never disappeared.
And if you want to label that criticism in his direction,please help me understand why others,who are equally or more guilty of such,continue to play?
Some of our players like Jesus, FFS and Gundog used to be good backup players for the likes of Aguero, Sane, Bernardo and Silva. All of a sudden, they are the first names on the team sheet. Foden was meant to be Silvas replacement, but baflingly cant get a start in the league. So why where we not in for a Harvetz or soneone? All the creativity falls on DeB's shoulders. Torres is one for the future.
We are happy to spend a lot of money on a lot of players, but are reluctant to spend more than £60m on one player. Think its time to break the bank and spend big to bring a couple of the best forward and midfielders in europe. (Messi on a free would be a bonus).
It all sounds a bit 'Football Manager' and childish but ultimatly our attack needs a complete rethink, and that does not come cheap.
On the plus side, our defence looks good for a change, Diaz looks the business.

The question is how much are we willing to invest/ trust in his talent so that he can overcome the inconsistency? Would we really have been any worse as a team had he started yesterday the last few league games?

It never seems to be the right time though, does it?
If we're doing well then people think we'll drop in quality if we put a young player on and if we're doing poorly then people don't want to put that young player into a thankless situation.
I'm all for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but there's this weird mindset on here where people have convinced themselves that playing Phil or any other academy player is some kind of huge risk.
Other teams manage to do it a damn sight more than us. A lot of those teams are currently better, too. In all competitions, Curtis Jones has as many games for Liverpool this season as Foden has for us. He's almost a year younger, has only been with the first team since last season and is an utterly unremarkable player.
I don't know, people can sit here scratching their heads and trying to retrofit some kind of logic behind the decisions being made but, to me, it makes no sense whatsoever.
So?
They owned a business together off the pitch, they were 'pals' that was the point.
People getting their knickers in a twist by two players hugging at the end of a turgid 90 minutes of shit football, plenty of things to be upset about before you get to two Yorkshire men hugging.
Not just young players though, Mahrez and Sterling are both inconsistent but they don’t seem to struggle getting game time

If he is so annoyed about not getting 5 subs, and not using 4 subs, he'll put out a completely different team against West Brom, which should include La Porte, Mendy, Foden, Sergio, Torres, Gungodan, Ake, Zinchenko, etc.
If he wants to rest players, and give every player a chance, he has to play all the players at some point, and not keep on relying on the same players, which includes some players who don't deserve a starting place every week.

It's not so much the hugging, smiling, laughing, joking, etc, it's the non existent look of disappointment, frustration, and realisation that the team we've just played.......(fill in as appropriate), and drawn 0-0 against, are a shite United team, who have been letting in goals for fun all season, have lost plenty of games this season, and were there for the taking.
I'd be walking off utterly frustated and disappointed with the result and the teams overall performance, bar individual players, John Stones being one of those players.
They are not shite. Did you watch City at Spurs or City v Utd last season.
Had this City side played Foden in midfield, or Bernardo we'd have probably won but also possibly been hit by a counter-attack like what happened vs Spurs.
Pep has been criticised for not being pragmatic and not doing what is best for the group.
He knows this group better than you do. He can see that we aren't efficient at taking chances so when we come up against a side that have a Fernandes and Rashford, we have to go with an element of caution.
To do otherwise would be high risk. We can not take too many more defeats this season. Taking a point away and damaging a rival in the process is not so bad. See Chelsea. Lost at Everton and deservedly too.
We are in the title race now and this is how we are going to do it. Win at home. Draw away (obviously not every single game though)
