Everything you say is correct. But we will never see the likes of our 2017/18 team again. That one season was the best in history by any English team and the following season was almost on a par. I am not being pessimistic for the future just realistic. No team will ever reach 100 points again. It is a unique record that will last centuries after we have all gone. After the domination we enjoyed in the last 2 title winning seasons, we should not be back in the pack now. We've failed to replace players who were the spine of the team and pivotal to the success of those two seasons
Aguero is fading, and as good a footballer as Jesus is, he isn't the predator that Aguero is
Fernandinho returning to midfield is an indication that Rodri isn't a successful replacement
David Silva has gone, and his "ready made successor" is still spending most of his time on the bench
Yaya has gone, unplayable on his day, how do you replace someone like him?
Leroy Sane, another who on his day was unplayable, Torres may fill his shoes, he's made a good start in Europe, but so far seems off the game in the league
Vincent Kompany, arguably the only one we have replaced successfully with both Dias and Laporte, but have we replaced his influence on the team? I'd argue not
This isn't an attack on who we now have, but a lament for what we have lost
I may feel differently tomorrow
Agree with lots of this and thanks for saying it. I just hope Pep is dissatisfied with the way we are playing. I’m glad he doesn’t come out and moan about the players but I hope behind the scenes he is unhappy. If he genuinely believed some of the stuff he is saying, and nothing else, then that would be very worrying.Everything you say is correct. But we will never see the likes of our 2017/18 team again. Like most people on here I have followed City through thick and thin and I won't be giving up on them anytime soon. My expectation for the future is a team that often wins trophies and is always in the mix. Our current team is evolving and I believe we will pick up at least one more trophy this year, possibly the CL. Perhaps we won't be as good to watch but I'll enjoy it just the same.
Nail on headAbsolutely hate the inverted wingers tactic. Mahrez is shite, and Sterling is not half the player on the left. Way too predictable, one-footed and for some reason can’t dribble a traffic cone on the left side. I reckon Torres could work on the left, but that’s because he’s more two footed, direct and unpredictable. Sterling should 100% play on the right side.
We don’t have the hunger and confidence we had a couple seasons ago. Too few seem to care
