United (A) Post Match Thread

After 40 + years it’s sad to say I’m not sure if I care, never felt that way when we were down it the dead men, never thought I’d feel like this
I think it would do some of our newer fans good if we were down amongst the dead men again, see how many would stick with us then. At least it would fuck all the glory hunters off who latched on only because we are successful, and we have quite a lot on this forum: )

Never mind York away. Home and away defeats by Wycombe Wanderers: /

God forbid they went the Ball years, don’t mention the other one, I forgot what it was like to see us score

You can't win sometimes, all last season we went for it, and many were crying out to be more pragmatic, had we turned a few of those defeats into draws who knows what would have happened, now he's doing what people wanted, and it's still wrong.

The only reason we are where we are in the league currently, is that we had a quite difficult start to the season, with no pre-season, and a shit load of injuries. We've lost 1 in 16 games in all competitions, away at the current league leaders - a game we should have won, where we had more than 5x the number of goal attempts than they did, caught out on the break, and due to our own errors at the back.
The pragmatism is welcome,as one size never fits all, that isnt the point i'm making,or the issue i have. The problem with Saturdays game wasnt the approach but the choice of personnel and the failure to change such - his in game management was poor, and that wasn't due to lack of alternative.

Of course there has been reason and mitigation for our less than fantastic start to this season, but that isnt to also say things could have been done better.Clearly me and you arent privvy to the inner workings......but many of his decisions have been head scratchers.

Yes, but...as they say, “The table doesn’t lie!” Even if we win our game in hand against Villa, we are 6th. If Utd win theirs, 7th!

That’s simply not good enough for this team.
7th place is plenty good enough at this stage if it means we're only 3 points off the top.

I’d politely disagree and suggest that if, before the season started, I’d said we would be 9th (maybe 10th!) after 11 games (almost 1/3 of the season) and Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, United, Leicester, Everton, West Ham and even Soton were all above us, plus we had just notched our 6th consecutive game without conceding, but our GD was only +6, and Ferran Torres was the top scorer so far this season after starting less than half of our games, I’d have been laughed at, pointed at, called a stupid Yank and a Rag, and you’d be singing a different tune about it being just fine.

But, hey, maybe 9th (possibly 10th after Villa play?!) fits current expectations going into the CL Round of 16 Draw?

what if we were 2nd and still 6 points off top spot? would you be happier? isn't it all about that top spot no matter where we are?

Well, you've just added a lot more substance there that wasn't in your original statement. My point was simply that I'm not going to obsess about league position if we're only 3 points off the top. 2nd or 7th makes no odds to me at this stage if we're sitting within one victory of the lead, but your other points are all hard to disagree with; our performances are certainly concerning.

i was there for both of them
i lived in high wycombe, worked at the pub closest to addams park, it was fucking horrible
but still a city fan, still a season ticket holder

Think people are being a little over the top.

And the stuff about us being 6th/7th is silly, we’re 3 pts off top if we beat Villa at home.

It’s one of those seasons for everyone, it’s been very affected by Covid-19.

Pep’s addressed the defensive issue and there’s lots of positives there, the forwards are having a bad patch and once they come into form again, we’ll start picking up more points.

My only gripe is Foden not getting enough minutes in the PL.

There is an element of other teams failings making our own look reasonable.

Given all the content on the last few pages, some of which is very valid, I personally still feel it’s been a disappointing start to the season.

Hopefully it gets better in these next run of games.

I made the home game. Didn't make the away or York away(sorry blues ; ) as I had a two year old daughter and worked 12 hour continental shifts. I made it to a few local aways though.

I think some fans forget where we were, not just the 98/99 season either. That's why every trophy we win is a bonus I think. I'm losing interest with football nowadays for several reasons. And one reason is watching apathetic players cosseted by fame and fortune. I'd much rather see a youngster given a chance than players costing millions who don't seem to give a fuck. We may have been shit back in the day but we knew who the players were who cared about us daft sods travelling all over to watch them. They put a shift in and are remembered fondly for grit over greed.
