Scotland data today:

Sunday data so always on the low side. Though who knows later in Wales given their day off from reporting numbers yesterday.


0 deaths

734 cases - but at 7.6% positivity. HIgher than of late so few tests done it seems.

213 Greater Glasgow, 135 Lothian and 95 Lanarkshire

1012 patients (down 3)

46 in icu ventilator beds (down 1)

Good data though Sunday and the positivity rate both caveats to watch.

Cases up a little, positivity of tests up a fair bit, patients up too after weeks of falling but ventilated patients falling steadily which is the last thing to change of course but for now going the right way.
 
If London escape Tier 3 restrictions there will be uproar, this Government will see rioters on the streets if they continue with this North / South divide.

It is but I think this time of year that is almost inevitable everywhere. The Scottish scientist at the presentation with Nicola Sturgeon says the R rate in Scotland is 0.7 to 0.9 which they are happy with. But both admit they are concerned about the coming Christmas break and what it will do.

She was asked by a reporter if she would recommend people not travel between Scotland and England given England is worse off. (I think that rather depends where in England you talk about right now and personally I would have argued that about Wales right now not England as the biggest problems are there at present).

Nicola stepped carefully over it by advising caution to everyone meeting those who might be at risk over Christmas anywhere.

Also asked given that England were now vaccinating over 80s in their own homes from today (not heard that but good news if true - is it even possible with this vaccine right now?) then when is Scotland going to do?

She responded by saying Scotland has been vaccinating in care homes since last week and their methods are being adopted by England who have not started yet as they could not figure out how to do it until now.

But mainly rising from the corresponding days of the previous week, and todays % a fair jump at that. At a time when cases are on the rise throughout several European countries, even these small increases seem a bit of a concerning trend. Especially when the % wasn't that far below the coveted 5% mark so there's not much wriggle room there.

It's obviously not full blown panic out of control mode right yet, but perhaps the first small signs of what's likely to come?

Roll on the vaccines. That's good news @Healdplace if true they are vaccinating the elderly in their own homes.

33 deaths - very high for Monday but will include yesterdays too.

1228 cases - which is better than of late but only 9300 tests were done so that is just under twice the positivity rate of Scotland. Way over the 5% limit WHO advise for an outbreak under control.

The way these test numbers are going from one extreme to another day to day is really making the number of cases everywhere an almost meaningless stat on its own.

Are people still harping on about how Londoners have been given everything on a plate during the pandemic? It's very boring and a massive piece of horseshit.

Can you please list all these benefits Londoners have had during the pandemic, that have not applied to any other region?


Rather selfishly, as I do not own a business, I am happy for London to go into Tier 3. Those who move into Tier 2 from 3, will soon realise that the difference is marginal at best. If people think it will have a significant impact on their quality of life they will be shocked. Maybe they should ask themselves if the extra positive cases, ICU patients and deaths are worth it.

I severely doubt it. If it did happen, then it would only identify the genuinely stupid.

Once again, please list the benefits Londoners have had that others in all other regions have not. Of course, if you are going to refer to data, then maybe you should highlight positive cases per 100,000 for the elderly and other info relating to the other criteria that were used to decide the tiers.

Yes day to day comparisons from week to week are best and 6.7 v 7.6 is quite a rise.

As for vaccinations my long term friend will be one of the first to get offered it in Manchester I trust. Given she is over 80 and has asthma, her son died from asthma as a young man, she was in hospital this time last year and nearly died from pneumonia and is in heart failure.

She just got a letter which she hoped was the news of an appointment. But it was from the government suggesting she take advantage of their free Vitamin D plan for the coming winter (which I thought started weeks ago?) - and given her problems is something she has been taking daily for years on prescription.

So if they cannot even coordinate that between government and GPs I am not optimistic they can get home vaccinating of the most vulnerable right.

Indeed it took them nearly two months to put her on the at risk list and offer food hampers but which - given that the alternative was not eating for weeks - she by then did not need as I was helping her to order food on line since nothing had happened for so long.

She politely told them she did not need them. EIGHT TIMES. They promised to stop the service but still kept bringing them in boxes and dumping them on her doorstep week after week until the service ended. We got a local charity finally to pick them up and use them. But for weeks anyone walking by was just taking stuff out of them.

Goodness knows how many people who really needed them ended up without because they could not enforce a simple request to stop sending them to those who didn't.
