I was fully expecting some political bullshit to emerge as to why the Capital was evading Tier 3 restrictions.......but,fair play, seems the Govt are doing what is required on this occasion.

London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire will move into the highest level of coronavirus restrictions from one minute past midnight on Wednesday, MPs have been told.

The move will see thousands of bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants close in the capital and surrounding areas after Tuesday night, except for takeaway, delivery and click and collect services.

Under Tier 3 measures, people must not meet socially indoors, in private gardens, or at most outdoors public venues with anyone they do not live with or are not in a support bubble with.

The heightened restrictions also mean fans will likely once again be banned from football stadiums and other sporting venues.

And theatres are also set to have to close their doors once more.

However, the "rule of six" will allow people from different households to continue meeting in small groups outdoors in parks, public gardens, playgrounds or outdoor sports facilities.

Of the 179 England hospital deaths all aged between 40 and 99 only 4 had no known existing underlying conditions. They were aged between 74 and 92.

The Government will have been slaughtered if London stayed in tier 2 and GM didn't move to tier 2

I suspect they've now got their ready made justification to keep GM in tier 3

Hang on I seem to recall BloJo and other Govt ministers were sweetening the pill of going back into the tier system by indicating some regions would have their ratings lowered.
Once again appalling communication and mixed messaging.

I am not sure I understand your data. According to PHW the last time Wales had as few as 2-3 deaths per day was early October. The average since mid October has been around 25/day, with it reaching the low 30s on a couple of occasions.
