Mr Hancock told MPs in the Commons there is currently "nothing to suggest" this variant will cause serious disease, adding that it is highly unlikely that it won't respond to a vaccine.

Ffs.
I do this is merely bombastic reporting over a slight mutation...awaits those with a bit more knowledge.

From the Times yesterday

A study from Basel University in Switzerland shows a new variant of the virus appears to have emerged from Spain in early summer and spread to the UK by July. Remarkable by September the new variant was estimated to be responsible for 50% of virus cases in England and 80% of those in Wales and Scotland.

So not the first time a new variant has appeared.

Why's this variant picking on Blighty?
It's like when the UK gets picked on in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Why does everyone hate us...

Hancock: Highly unlikely the new virus strain will impinge on the impact of the vaccine.

Tests are being conducted on the strain.

The vaccines work on the spike protein which so far hasn’t changed in any mutation/new strain so that’s probably why he’s (rightly) saying that.

Though that’s probably bad news for some of the depressive twats on here that love a good bad news story.

Wonder if that would affect the AX/Oxford vaccine though (can'r quite recall if their method used the spike protein in any way?)
