As my quote said, "If London escape going into Tier 3"

At least the Government have done the right thing, it was obvious that this had to happen, if it didn't thats when i could have seen trouble.

Are the paranoid, tin foil hat wearers now satisfied? Pitchforks back in the shed?

I am satisfied we are going into Tier 3. Especially with lack of information regarding the latest variant. Of course, that is purely selfish and I do feel guilty holding this view as many in London will suffer. After all, there are c1,000,000 who live in poverty in the capital, many of whom will work in hospitality and other sectors impacted by the the move to Tier 3.

Interestingly, almost all the London boroughs currently suffering most at the moment, were the ones who did not suffer as much as loss in the first wave. Places like Waltham Forest and Greenwich, where there have been a particularly sharp rise in cases, had half the deaths places like Barnet and Brent had in the first wave. This suggests immunity may be lower in those areas. What concerns me most is in some of those areas where cases are rising sharply, there are concentrations of Black and Asian communities. The likes of Newham, Tower Hamlets and Southwark have populations that are c60% BAME (based on pop estimates, rather than the 10-year old Census data). To put this in to perspective, this is more than double the BAME population of Oldham, and each of those London boroughs have populations at least 25% higher than Oldham.

Disastrous press conference particularly regarding the 5 day Xmas super spreader.
Scientists hopelessly compromised by aligning themselves with Government.
Takes me back to the press conference in early March when they supported Johnson in the disastrous decision not to lock down earlier ( football matches ok -Vallance, people get bored if you lockdown too early - Whitty).
The scientists should give advice on the science only -not get involved in justifying a decision to open up Xmas, that it is a POLITICAL decision.
Should not be and should never have been sharing the platform on the pressers with politicians.

No they cant ,this has to be a collective effort , it is a pandemic ffs
They can and 99% are.

every country apart from ours is allowing contact between households. It’s only ours where we want zero contact.

Lockdowns kill more than they save directly and indirectly. We are killing people under the pretence of saving lives

Did you miss the part where we’re allowed to meet 3 different households for 5 days over Christmas?

From the scientist he's basing that on:

Also note earlier tweet highlighting that mutations in that area have been observed many times before.

I don't think Hancock announcing this in parliament has helped anything, unless there's something more to come.

The timing of the announcement of this along with Govt looking at tightening the rules and not loosening restrictions in some areas, may be a coincidence. There have been a number of mutations but interesting that a seemingly fair amount of emphasis on this particular one. Maybe I am being overly cynical and there are particular concerns about this. Regardless, I wish this kind of information would not be shared with the public until tests are done to establish if this is something that we should be very concerned about.

New strain - no evidence that it's caused a change in spread, or that it's worse/better than the 'normal' one. Just that they'd noticed it and are looking further into it.

Are you blind , revisit the rules

If tier 3 is our saving grace, how come Liverpool havent seen a massive rise since being in tier 2?
I am not sure the tiers or the mass testing had as much to do with what happened in Liverpool as Hancock claims, Numbers were already falling there.

They might have come down in GM too on their own.

All waves go up and down and the NW rose first in wave 2 so likely would fall first

I am talking generally about the tiers and their effectiveness. Neither are as good as a full lockdown but one imports virus and the other exports it by its differing restrictions to neighbour areas.

All London is in Tier 3 now because they have figured that out. There are boroughs in London angry at this move but it makes sense.

"Colllective" is a moot point though
It's easy to call for stuff when it doesn't impact on you.
I'm sick of hearing older retired people, for example, slagging off everyone else.
I said it months ago but I'll say it again...people would love to be sending the WW1 equivalent of a white feather if they could.
This pandemic has brought out the worst in people. Both the ones who consistently ignore the guidance AND those who constantly criticise others.
Does my bleeding head in.

Nobody should be judging anyone unless they have not adhered to any of the rules of the last 9 months.
