It’s not freight they’ve stopped as such, it’s accompanied freight, so the drivers. Ideally, they should have implemented rapid testing sites at the ferry ports to mitigate the risk when needed.

Its been a common theme with this government though. They’ve planned for the best and then had to change direction quickly when it goes wrong rather than planning for the worst and mitigating the impact when it happens.

According to NERVTAG (govt scientific Committee)

Within the UK, the variant is concentrated in the London, South East and East of England but has been detected in various parts of the UK.

In other words, it's already here.

Exponential growth means you can expect to go from not noticed above the background covid to skyrocketing in just a few days.

The doubling time seen in London is about 6 days. That means 30 fold in a month, 1000 fold in two months. Likely right now it's starting to overtake the back ground levels of other variants here, and as soon as a week or two we could be where London is.

All assuming the early data is truly representative.
 
So panic buying is back.

Shops have had ample time to prepare for all this again... they need to implement spending rules straight away and have more security, they've made billions this year - no excuse for them to fu*k this up again
 
in a somewhat serendipitous piece of astronomical and seasonal timing, we have arrived on the darkest and shortest day of the year on seemingly the darkest moment for the covid fight - what we thought was now an argument over opening some pubs or not has now become a seemingly darker episode about the entire efficacy of the vaccine against a new, more transmissable strain of covid.

But try to stay calm BM, even if it is hard. Every day brings more daylight and more vaccinations and one day closer to the end of this silly bollocks. Just keep on going, day by day.
 
This ‘new mutant strain’ has clearly been around ages and the govt just decided it would be an opportune time to wheel it out to facilitate project fear and justify another U-turn and cancelling christmas. Purely a propoganda lever but look at the damage it is causing. Scandalous

If people don't believe that this new strain is so virulent then why are case numbers shooting up all of a sudden or are we not to believe the figures as well?

the main issue with saying stuff like that is its accurate when no mitigation or suppression is taken into consideration. so when we do suppress and mitigate it people jump up saying everyone was over reacting. Just gotta look at the Whitty / Valance stuff pre Nov lockdown. everyone calling them Scaremongereres. when that was exactly what they intended to do to get people to take it seriously again.

it is not unusual for them to be stacked on the M20 , everytime the french go on strike they get to sit there for days , many ti.es i used to drive past the poor fuckers
