What would really encourage vaccination worldwide is if the NHS can produce a graphic in a fortnight's time showing to the world that UK hospitalisations of over 80s have plunged. I really hope to see that. Vaccine uptake is critical.

I keep banging on about it but I think (and hope) that's where Israel come in. If they start to see good results in terms of decreasing hospitalisations over next few days as they hope, it should be shared far and wide as possible.

My mrs has volunteered through St. John’s to administer the vaccine. She’s needle trained through working for the NHS for 15 years (she left a couple of years ago). 5 weeks after getting in touch she’s still waiting on a start date. Lots of emails zoom chats etc but the same old problem that it takes forever to get things up and running! I bet plenty have knocked it on the head as it’s unpaid work at the end of the day

Sturgeon has said urgent talks are ongoing regarding closing international borders. Possible announcements soon.

Do it now Johnson ffs.
Perhaps someone should tell him that he can bill it a 'world beating' border closure - as in taking 10 months to get around to doing it - longer than the rest of the universe, let alone the world.

Let's be fair here. We only got the vaccine a few days ago it's not like we knew it was coming our way several months ago was it and could get everyone trained in time.

We’ve been administering the vaccine for a couple of weeks at least mate. The advert was on St. John’s for weeks beforehand as everyone knew it was coming so plenty of time to get people on board in my humble opinion

I work in hospitality.

Managers are going into the business infrequently for admin tasks, video calls etc.

Pubs/restaurants can open for takeaways only, my place isn't as who wants a takeaway steak!

Yes, I'm bored shitless. I tend to go into work once a fortnight just for a change of scenery and to dispose of any items that are out of date.

Yes, we are on furlough. Some waiters/waitresses struggling as they rely on their tips to survive.
thanks, it must be hard.

I do feel so sorry for the year 11's who should be doing their exams this summer. Cancelling them is going to have ramifications for years to come. If they are cancelled then if we do start to get some normality back in March/April are they going to be expected to return to school for the last couple of months? A lot of them will be wanting to progress onto A Levels and as anyone who has done them recently will tell you, the jump from GCSE study to A Level study can be pretty significant at the best of times. This group are going to be making that transition on the back of 2 or 3 months, (probably interrupted) study in the last year and a half!

That’s 30mins work.
Dentists and military medics will be aufait with most of the mandatory topics and will generally opt to take the assessment straight away.
Sticking a needle in someone’s arm and pressing a plunger isn’t the most difficult task in the world but when something goes wrong you’d expect the vaccinator to be able to manage the situation.
In data awareness?
Really?

Merseyside mayor on BBC now saying he is afraid their hospitals will be overwhelmed. Um then why did you not demand tier 4 instead of acting as a poster child for doing what you were told and accepting the reward of tier 3 when cases were escalating?

Indeed he is now suggesting the testing there be used as a way to help deploy the vaccine.

Is that a suggestion because Liverpool is now badly infected it should get more vaccine?

I'm ok mate.
Criticism where it's due and credit where it's due.
Also I won't be measuring vaccine rollout performance against the mid Feb date given by BoJo.
I regard it as an aspiration and will be pleased if we get close to it.

Local ice cream shop has just announced on social media how delighted they are to still be open and all the measures they have in place bla bla bla.

Frustrating as fuck yet there's nothing I or anyone can do unless the government step in and specifically tell them they have to shut.

Just one example of many businesses finding loopholes to keep their doors open. Food = essential. Ice cream, fuck off. Take some personal responsibility and we might get out of this mess.

Take a breath before you see todays England hospital deaths. The big catch up begins.

582 - it was 365 last Tuesday.

Even worse - the NW long weekend catch up gives the region its highest ever daily total 109.

At least hopefully just the weekend catch up not the new normal for the NW.

Though not the biggest of the day. London had 120.

We have something similar here. I live near Hollingworth Lake and the chippy there is doing a roaring trade today. Yes its food and yes its a takeaway so can't really argue with them being open on those grounds but really, is it absolutely necessary for people to stand in a queue at least a dozen people long on a Tuesday lunchtime to get some fish and chips???

This is going to be similar across the country which is why I don't think this lockdown will be anywhere near as effective as before, going to be lots of stuff open that weren't last time.
