Coronavirus (2021) thread

Heard a story yesterday, of a 22 year old dying from cancer that has covid too, and can only be seen by doctors and nurses in full ppe. Incredibly hard not just for the patient and family obviously but the staff caring for her too.
It’s very sad. On the news now it’s reporting that people are delaying going to A&E with heart problems and people presenting in. General Practice have escalating problems from a range of conditions

Golf clubs per se are have been shut since the Tier 3 lockdown. Courses are open but only for "bubble" same household players. In 30 years of playing golf I've never not played with friends so it's effectively closed for me and my golfing friends.

That’s not right. You can still play four ball in tier three with multiple households and two ball in tier four with a different household.

Its only three or four ball in tier 4 that is all same household or bubble.

Nonsense.
Golf courses are open in tier 4 for twosomes. They do not need to be the same bubble or household.

I’ve played every week apart from the course closing due to snow.
I stand corrected, I was informed by one of my golf friends it was bubble or household only, just checked with my club and they are allowing 2 balls, I didn't take too much interest as I don't play in the current conditions, our Club (Ashton-under-Lyne) gets far to boggy in winter for it to be enjoyable. Where do you play?

The Telegraph did an article, it's behind a paywall but if you stop the page from refreshing early enough you can read the whole thing.

I massively agree with your second point. People need a light at the end of the tunnel. A big, well defined spotlight, not a vague promise that in a year we'll probably all be vaccinated.

Someone also posted a great article in a Belgian paper interviewing the CEO of an Oxford hospital which is worth reading through google translate.
That was a clever hint - I managed it. Thanks.

It reads to say
500k AZ ready to use today
500k AZ (approx) arriving by tomorrow.
3 million AZ filled and awaiting checks
15 million AZ ready to be put in vials - only days, say AZ

Also 500k Pfizer ready to use has been reported.

I've said before that the flannel and waffle has muddied the message.
The "2 miilion a week" is a target to arrive at in 3 months - not now, and not likely to be this month, yet 2M/week is the figure that has registered - that needs correcting to control expectations. The NHS have not agreed to 2M/week, apparently.

I think the least is a statement that
  1. when the govt will have identified all people in each band
  2. who is organising the centres, and a website of where they are
  3. when each band will have received postal notification that they are up for jabbing and where to do it
  4. how they are recording first/second jabs
Something like that then gives a timescale to be expected to hear something, and where to contact if they do not hear.

Boris this morning says it is inevitable they will have to tighten restrictions. Soon (ish) by the sounds of it. Tier 5 being considered. Not sure what it will be like yet. As they are still assessing how well Tier 4 is working. May have to delay the next tiers assessment whilst they figure it out.

If it is inevitable surely that means we should have locked down yesterday not tomorrow.

In reality it was a long time before yesterday as most of us realise and will likely be anything they can NOT call a lockdown brought in the day after tomorrow.

This dragging out of every decision is frankly so idiotic it is almost as if aliens in disguise are in charge and doing all they can to make sure our country is wrecked care of a government in league with the Daleks.

Never thought real life could end up being more ridiculous than a cheesy Doctor Who Christmas Special script.

But it sure feels like it right now.

And yet he was adamant yesterday that schools remain open. Madness

You should tell the CEO of Astrazeneca that because just a few days ago he was on the news confirming that they would be delivering 2m doses per week by the 3rd week of January.
