The death toll will start scaring people again and they'll take it seriously again.

IMO Right now there's a lot of "this isn't as bad as March, and I was fine then".

When it eclipses the first wave and we are setting records every day then people will be scared into being sensible.
The 1 In 50 is a scary stat but it’s still not “on the doorstep” in a lot of cases, and a lot of people are still really ignorant. I’m not convinced that the death toll is what will scare people, I think it’ll take the NHS collapsing before the majority start abiding.

Great for her but I'm surprised they don't have to account for every dose, there's technically nothing stopping them bringing in their own family or arranging 'payments' from outsiders, that'd be a concern.
I know of a family friend GP who got his mother in law in on day 1. She is in her early 80s so hasn’t jumped the queue as such. But I imagine there’s a bit of leeway here and there.

I’m off to an all night rave later.
if you’re going to be taking Vitamin E tonight you shouldn’t wear a mask as that could be dangerous due to your elevated heart rate and increased breathing. Social distancing may be difficult as you will inevitably swear your undying love to a complete stranger. If you get busted just try and stare at the flashing blue lights for an extra hit before they throw you in the back of the car.

Stay safe and Enjoy!

p.s where is it?

I'm not so happy about the clapping coming back, would seem more apt to have a minutes silence every week.
I listened to a lady paramedic on the radio. She would have been happy if the public just stopped abusing them as they go about their work - wear a mask and keep their distance. Not much to ask you would think but seemingly not so for many.

Spoke too soon it seems.

She received another message 20 mins ago stating it’s been cancelled.

That is a shame. I had imagined they had people not turn up and have to use the daily supply of vaccine so called people on their lists in so as to make sure they do so. Nothing wrong with them doing that. Indeed they really ought to do it.

And your post motivated me to have a heart to heart with my friend who now understands the urgency and is getting her grandson to call and ask why she ha yet to be called to the Etihad to have the jab next week. He will get it acrss better than either she would or I would as we would likely be too 'understanding''.

Let you know what happens as she was starting to think they were just regarding her as not worth saving.

Which is terrible as I suspect others overlooked will have similar feelings if they get left at the back of the queue.

Hopefully your mum does not have too long to wait. She is in the same bracket as I am and I am expecting late Feb at best. More likely March. If they stay on target which is a bit of a big if.

Surprised to find my Mum (66) has been given the call for her first vaccine next week. Earlier than we expected. Might put my mind at some ease.

It appears that they are getting through the older age groups in the north than down here. Father in law is 72 with heart issues and he has not received notification of when he will be vaccinated.

North-South bias? ;)

Edit: just spotted your follow-up. Two of my uncles (based up North) have been vaccinated but they have no underlying health issues and are late 60s.

Here’s a little positive story, of no great consequence but thought I’d share, that my mither-in-law who is 78 accompanied my father-in-law who is 84 for him to have his second Pfizer jab and whilst there she asked cheekily whether they could give her a jab and incredibly they obliged, told her to roll sleeve up and whacked it in there and then.

Nice to see a bit of red tape being ignored for once!

Did they even bother to ask if she has a history of allergies? That is gross incompetence if we are being honest.

-5 in the North-west of England tonight.

My good lady had her second jab this evening. Same procedure as the first. Asked if it was her first or second. They seemed pleasantly surprised it was her second which gave her the impression they're running down the follow ups. Fifteen minutes in a pod and off you go.
Our daughter is due her second on the 13th which is looking flimsy at best.
Nice to know at least two of the family are relatively safe now.

Quick summary of GM before the match.

Not a good day. Up 431 to 1583.

That is most of the NW increase today of 519.

As a result the GM % of the NW rose from yesterday's shock fall to 22% back up to 27% where it was 2 days ago.

All 10 GM borough s were over 100 for first time in a while.

Manchester had its highest number in many weeks. But still 300 less than Liverpool. Though more than Wirral today. ~

Apart from Manchester (369 cases) all 9 other boroughs were in a small case range of just 28 between 118 and 146.

Every borough went up - apart from Stockport. Which for once had a better day. Though still up on last week.
