How its going

Surely even the most rabid mouth breathers from either end of the extremes of this topic would expect a period of time where businesses big and small take time to get used to the new ways of working?

Its 5% of M&S’s total NI stock, it’s not like it’s 95%, while they just get used to new paperwork and when they have to submit it.

It’s barely a story. If this is the level of big Brexit news, I think things are going to be fine.

Slightly misleading stats. It would appear that the stats exclude the 45% of all imports that come from the EU. In other words we are unilaterally lowering tariffs to much of the rest of the world without necessarily getting anything in return. Not sure that’s quite the “win” for the U.K. that you might imagine if it allows low cost economies to undercut domestic production.

I would imagine most none EU goods don’t pay the external tariff most developing nations benefit from no tariffs under the WTO everything but arms and there are something like 70 nations covered by EU trade deals

Thats just the tip of the iceberg though

I swear sometimes you guys do this just to give me something to piss all over. It’s a kindness, it really is, so where do we start? Well, we start with the obvious one.

This is within our own country. The United Kingdom. You may have heard of it. Possibly not, who knows these days.

But it bears repeating that Brexit, which was meant to liberate us from EU red tape, has so far delivered fresh new red tape and costs on internal trade within our own sovereign territory. That would be the UK. You understand the implications of that? Not only will this produce higher costs of produce in NI, it is in the long run likely to reconfigure supply chains on an all Ireland economy basis with the EU and bypassing GB.

Furthermore, with reduced GB/NI trade you will get reduced NI/GB trade because although there are no custom barriers (theoretically) on that trade, the supply routes will diminish because lorries delivering goods going from NI to GB are less likely to have a return cargo to make it economic.

And this is just scratching the surface, I’m not even trying that hard to point out why ‘well it’s only 5% and a few forms so what is the fuss?’ is dumb. Although I did wait until you got a few likes from the usual ‘can’t spot the fucking obvious‘ crowd before replying, which is my bad.

Allowing musicians continued easy access, both ways, to touring as well as maintaining the Erasmus system seem like such easy wins in selling Brexit that I can only conclude that the government are totally stupid or that Brexit negotiations were indeed ideologically driven rather than with the best interests of UK citizens in mind. These two very obvious examples being the case it does make me wonder how much more detail is to follow about how we have hampered ourselves for narrow, ideological reasons.
On the face of it I have to agree - it seems that it has been deliberately rejected and unless there is some other reason that I cannot see it seems to be an unnecessary issue to cause. Perhaps there is such an issue, but as I say - I cannot see it.

It won’t happen in our lifetimes.

It could only be done via a vote and no vote will ever be allowed to take place, people would die going to the ballot box.
Always thought it wouldn’t happen in my lifetime, but if Scotland went first, then who knows.

Anyway, whatever form a new 32 county state would have, I hope a lot more thought goes into it’s development than went into NI’s current status in the UK.
