Big Tech censorship | Trump Banned from Twitter

For me it's not so much trump losing his platform that's an issue. Just like the old fire triangle of heat, fuel and oxygen trump and the qanon need a few ingredients to function, one of which is an outraged and reactive opposition feeding a sense of persecution and their conspiracy theories. For the sake of 9 days, I'm not sure the Trump SM blackout is worth it tbh.
Bollocks. Far too much is being made of this. He has all the traditional forms of communication open to him. How the fk did we function before Twitter?
The real question is why isn't he in prison yet?

Ironically perhaps because he's only been convicted in the high court of social media at present. I'm all for him getting justice, but the mad scramble to deliver it before the 20th feels more like vengeance tbh.

A lawyer put it this way on MSNBC earlier.

“Do we want quick justice, or correct Justice?” Meaning methodically scoping all the evidence and the other players in such a watertight case it will serve as an historical warning for any fucker wanting to try it again.

There’s definitely something in that I feel.

Biden has failed in his unitethe nation already if it’s his parties control of the senate punishes Trump.

The qanon idiots were hoping for a reenactment of the civil war last week and were (imho) quite cleverly cheated of it by the pretty light security responce. Probably best to let trump fade into obscurity and his followers can go back to worrying about area 51 and the moon landings within a week.

They are that thick not to realise if security is piss poor in the Capitol building they could just walk into Area 51 and bring out some alien technology, like a pen and notebook.

The man is holding a smoking gun quite literally at a murder scene. Not vengeance (a typical deflection by apologists). If I had incited a riot, let alone an insurgency, at a public meeting, which led to deaths, I would currently be suiting in a cell with no bail...to argue differently is enabling.

Was thinking about this earlier, Biden has such a difficult tenure on his hands. Going after Trump will enrage his supporters more and, like you say, potentially divide rather than unite the nation.

Ultimately though, not going after him isn’t uniting either, it’s placating, and it’s placating something that all Americans have to deem as unacceptable before they can truly move on.

Short term, I get the argument about don’t fuel the fire. To truly deal with it though, I think they’ve got to face into it at some point - if I was them I’d deal with it now, sort out the short term and try and get it to burn out quickly.

I completely disagree with this. For one, to impeach would require 17 Republican votes. And how is the nation made united by just letting Trump go on his merry way? If it’s not the Senate, it’s going to be the AG and law enforcement — Biden’s AG. If he lets this go you can bet your ass he’ll go the way of Gerald Ford. And what standing would the US have in foreign relations, ever? That might sit will with many to watch the “world’s Democracy policeman” neutered, and maybe many would like the US to butt out period, which I get, but if we let this go unpunished there isn’t a group of oppressed people on earth in any nation who would turn to us for support. Why should they?

I am just guessing here, but for those defending Trump or offering “just let it go away” type of advice, you might find yourself awfully embarrassed in a few weeks or months if stories about his complicity in all of this comes out. He violated amendment 14, section 3 of the Constitution. We let that go, and I don’t see how democracy, our elected representatives, or the people of this nation can ever recover. Should we have just let Nixon off to spare the nation being torn apart?

Republicans had myriad opportunities to stop this. They wouldn’t, and now they can’t. The monster is loose. If Democrats don’t, who will?

It’s a tough choice.

I’m firmly in the court of take him down and his empire of fascists cunts ASAP. I can’t help but think both sides are looking more at most political gain than actually uniting and doing it. Which says something about those power hungry individuals holding shit up. Other, so called lesser nations would have just dragged the fuckers out of their big house and shot them on live TV.

I think you are quite wrong. Just because I'm not indulging in an internet 'pile on' does not make me an apologist or an enabler. If he is as complicit in murder as you say, then I'm sure justice will be forthcoming. I'm just wary that his brand of politics depends upon dividing us into two tribes spitting abuse at each other and I refuse to be used in that way.

Look, he’s not going be impeached or 25th by the inauguration, so this point is moot. But he can and should be impeached afterwards, and probably pursued for criminal violation of Amendment 14, Section 3. WhenEVER it happens, his rabid support base is going to go nuts, and there’s going to be more division. His approval ratings just came out — 33%. Down a ton, but still — 33%! Thing is, the day Nixon resigned his approval ratings were 25%. The problem you think you are solving by waiting doesn’t go away.

The President is complicit in a coup attempt against the nation. We are probably going to find that he, his staff, his supporters in Congress weren’t just complicit — they directed it.

This is not 'brands' of politics or tribal. It is facism for Christ sake. Your attempt at fence sitting is enabling. You are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem. Amazing how the conservatives become snowflakes all of a sudden.

I think I agree with you. I just think there is power in the sight of him being quietly reduced to a non entity, and then receiving justice in a very ordinary way rather than him becoming any sort of martyr. I'm actually surprised no one since November has sought to leverage his debts and misdemeanours in order to buy his silence and quiet exit. Nixon was pardoned by his successor I think.

You have no idea about me or my politics. I'm not even really disagreeing with you in terms of outcome, just the manner of delivery. Your simplistic binary view of this is childish but you are most welcome to it.

To be fair, no one knows anything about you or your politics because you don’t post any opinion ever.

You are all about bantz and Devil’s advocate.

Your non-specific, scattergun view of all topics to provoke responses is childish, but you are most welcome to it.

Some things are simple. Something's are binary. That does not make them childish. Right and wrong are very distinct in this instance.

I stated my opinion less than two posts back.

Oh ffs, I'm not defending trump or saying he's 'right', I'm just not into the whole lynch-mob mentality thing. That's how we end up with bigoted reality TV stars in the oval office in the first place.
