Gov Uk having data issues again so the numbers are late and no time estimate of when. It is due to a delay processing deaths - they report.

13 January 2021
Due to an issue with the processing of deaths data, the update for 14 January 2021 is delayed.

That is the message exactly as shown.

I know what they mean but....

It must presumably be out of settings England data as we have all the rest.

Total for N Ireland, Wales and Scotland (all settings) plus England (hospital only) is 1018.

FFS, If they need reminding after having to wear one for months then they shouldn't be allowed out. In fact they shouldn't be allowed to breed either.
Beat me to it,hope there is someone around to remind them to wipe their arse.

And yet absolutely fuck all is going to happen to China to investigate them, punish them or change their ways.

I doubt they’ll do any of their own internal changes of systems and laws neither.

New strains of flu will still come out of China every year as they always have, then in another decade something massive will happen again. Everyone will say “why were they not investigated back in 2020 and made to change?”

The promise from China of access to it's ever growing affluent middle classes and putting more trade deals together will be the catalyst for the world acquiring collective amnesia - Check mate from the CCP again

I love it when people start thinking they’re ten men. I always say “do it!”
I did the "come on then" twat speak & thank fcuk he walked away haha.
I positioned myself next to the wine bottles, it could have been me throwing bottles at a knife wielding cnut in the Co-op, i would have used the cheap plonk first obviously.
Afterwards i thought to myself, you're a twat, you have Children, a Grandchild & another on the way.
Joking aside, it isn't worth it

Twitter thread from scientist are forefront of understanding of new strains, this is specifically about the mutation from Brazil where concerns have been raised on vaccine efficacy.

Short version: can't yet fully quantify, but vaccines still have significant efficacy against this variant.

In short, the spike protein gradually mutates to make antibodies to the previous strain less effective at fighting the new strain.
No different than any other new virus strain.
You roll out a new vaccine to fight the new stains the following years. Just like Flu.
The difference going forward?
As the virus type is no longer novel to the indivual the infected person has some iimmunity and is able to better fight it.

Pritti said no new rules today or friday. Now delayed numbers. Friday drop the horrendous numbers. Saturday new lockdown rules?

Still can't shake the impression it's positively hectic out there. Schools are shut ...but everything else apart from luxury retailers is open and going like the clappers. Would definitely welcome a bit of a reboot. Don't want to leave my home right now, it's so busy and dirty. Can't socialise again for months, but everyone doing any job whatsoever is back at it. Seems wierd to me. TBH I've found the last 72hrs as difficult as any point. I can't accept we're just going to save the economy and screw the people.

But maybe I'm being too optimistic in hoping for a change.

so hopefully turning severe into mild naturally with a targeted vaccine top-up.

Exactly. If we'd never seen flu before it would be absolutely devastating. But the effect is minimised by a female ancestor once having a previous strain and passing their antibodies on to their offspring. As virus mutations spread across the population your immune response is topped up.
Mutations aren't great especially to older folks but these are minimised by seeing the new stains emerging across the world and creating vaccines for the most likely critters and giving them to people at risk.
Modern medicine at work to counter evolution at work.
The new vaccines we have created to counter Covid-19 allow us to counter new virus strains within 2-3 months rather than a year. A quantum leap in medicine.

The England hospital deaths data today still shows grim numbers in coming days.

Another record 368 added to 12 Jan to be 494 after just 2 days.

The three day total for 11 Jan is 625 (only the peak day 8 April) in wave one has ever had more.

The four day total for 10 Jan is 612. And the five day total for 9 Jan is 601. Highest 5 day total since 12 April - 4 days after the peak of the first wave.

As another guide these are the dates at 5 days we reached the hundreds:

First 100 deaths day after 5 days 17 October

First 200 deaths day after 5 days 1 November

First 300 deaths day after 5 days 18 November

After this the autumn wave flattened thanks to lockdown.

First 400 deaths day after 5 days 2 January

First 500 deaths day after 5 days 4 January

First 600 deaths day after 5 days 9 January.

Looks like the first 700 deaths day after 5 days will be quite likely 11 January.

This wave is far more rapid in its escalation than the one in the autumn - presumably because of the new variant.
