Twitter thread from scientist are forefront of understanding of new strains, this is specifically about the mutation from Brazil where concerns have been raised on vaccine efficacy.

Short version: can't yet fully quantify, but vaccines still have significant efficacy against this variant.

Thanks for the link and to the timings. Just watched all of what the deputy CMO had to say about it and yeah you're entirely right that a lot of the context has been stripped away, even when it goes back to Nicola Sturgeon who herself plays it down to some extent and compares it with how flu mutates and vaccines are appropriately amended.

You think that’s bad. I was in Asda earlier and had an old guy next to me, whose mobile rang whilst he was lookin at same section as me, he answered it and then removed his mask before he started speaking down the phone. I just shook my head and walked away briskly.

Thankfully my 89 year old friend has finally got her vaccination appointment for next Friday at the Etihad tennis complex.

Second dose will be in April! Though she had a choice of dates.

she is fussing over them telling her they will want to discuss her medical history and medications taken up front. She has a lot of them. As an ex NHS medical secretary at a Manchester hospital she noted - we usually knew that about our patients before we called them in.

I told her they will just be checking she is not pregnant first.

And yet absolutely fuck all is going to happen to China to investigate them, punish them or change their ways.

I doubt they’ll do any of their own internal changes of systems and laws neither.

New strains of flu will still come out of China every year as they always have, then in another decade something massive will happen again. Everyone will say “why were they not investigated back in 2020 and made to change?”
