I agree with everything you've said. Worries me because I think the vaccine with reduce illness but not stop transmission.

I honestly don't see life ever being 'normal' again.

I mean, do you ever see full football stadiums again for eg?

Yes, 10000%. Even in my most negative moments, and ive had plenty, I've never even considered this a realistic possibility. The virus will go endemic, and eventually we will move on. It'll be painful, and it already is, but that's life and that's pandemics. Science will trump it, as will human will.

I live not too far from Blackburn and could tell you why I think this is the case.

You have to dance round it but I will tell you.

mosques and the Vast majority of the Asian community not wearing masks. Several of my Asian friends have asked me if I want to come for a meal at a lock in restaurant and they have not been worried or respectful about the virus at all and yet they are telling me several people they know have died?!

I am not getting it.

That is possibly the most grimly pessimistic post I've read on here.

Life will get back to normal but we may have the equivalent of an additional flu to deal with. Flu kills people all year round and in a low year it is around 7000 deaths but in a bad year its around 22,000. Life will go on because it has to.
I hope so pal, suppose I'm just scared but I really hope you're right.

I'm really greatful to people more optimistic than me. I need to be slapped sometimes.

Come on. Hands up. Who's hacked his account?

I accept that but there is also a load of NF / FLA types in Blackburn who won’t follow the rules. Maybe, Blackburn has a perfect storm of Covidiots across their Communities. I used to be a regular visitor to Blackburn Royal Infirmary and it’s the only hospital I know where the visitors look worse than the patients.

When people say human will can triumph the virus. We're not really the ones fighting it. We're the home front. The 'army' are the doctors, particularly those in A&E. There is no more will we can extract from these people than they already give. They work insane ours and suffer insane stress even in 'peacetime'. They are human beings.

30% of A&E doctors now show signs of PTSD. They're being run into the ground. That's a real limiting factor on how things go. That's honestly why I think Boris has had no choice, and why he's sobering up a bit.

Scenes in my local shop just now: a youngish guy comes in and the woman behind the till tells him he can’t come in without a mask. He says he hasn’t got one so she gives him a disposable and tells him it’s 50p. He refuse to pay then says “I’m exempt”. I was in the queue and couldn’t help saying “No you’re not”. The woman tells him if he doesn’t wear it he isn’t coming in. He then starts shouting “Have you not seen the Australian news? They’re lying to you. It’s all a con..” Before he can carry on the 3 or 4 of us near the counter just shout him down, tell him to shut up and get out and he slinks off. Then when he was gone everyone starts thanking the woman (who works part time there) and telling her she did the right thing.

It was quite heart warming.
I often think what I’d do in those situations. Before I myself caught covid I’d mutter under my breath & give them a good stare.
After experiencing just how bad it can render you imm it sure I’d be able to hold back when I finally go back out. Undoubtedly confront them...it’s making me angry just thinking about it.

These selfish, daft sods have made me far more authoritarian than I’ve ever been.

How are you now mate? i've been following your posts this last week or so. Hope you're better.

Got confirmation earlier that I'm getting my first jab (Pfizer) next Sunday through my place of work and the second dose three weeks after that. Well happy!
Nice one. Although if you're in the UK, you won't be getting the second jab in three weeks time.

Do you get to choose which version of the vaccine you get or is it just whatever you're given? Saw on the BBC website the Oxford one has an effectiveness of between 70%-90% whilst all the others have a 95% effectiveness. Unless I'm not understanding this correctly it seems pretty pointless getting the least effective one.

Fell back down again today after feeling v positive yesterday. Something like day 12 now.
It’s the way it’s sat on my chest...like having sand in my lungs I can’t cough out.

Likely I’m just susceptible to chest infections?
Convinced I got hit badly as my immune system was off guard (I was feeling run down, possibly due to crap sleep). I was doing two hour evening walks with the dog in the freezing cold over the past few months (with runs added in two).
Loads of energy....but feeling that completely deflated & struggling to walk for more than five mins has been quite sobering.

Very rare I get ill when I see others succumbing to illnesses during the year I put it down to a fit & healthy lifestyle.

Knocked me back physically & mentally quite hard this.
Does this mean in the future I’m far more liable to fall for similar respiratory diseases?
Maybe I got unlucky & had the full viral load from my daughter who had this over Xmas....

Don't know about UK, but we don't get to choose you get what you are given.

Sorry to hear that pal. Don't really know what to say but that i think it's given you it's worse and you've been stronger than it. Hopefully you get to see some real improvement over the next few days. At least you will be full of antibodies and T-cells then.

You don’t get a choice, but anything over 70% is plenty effective. The flu vaccine is only about 60% . In fact the Oxford vaccine would be considered very good, at 70-90, the 95. % is something of an anomoly. Though the new science behind the pfizer may lead to new more effective vaccines in the future for all sorts of viruses.
