Political relations between UK-EU

There’s nothing hard right about my views, believe me. Hard right means generally ethno-politics and I hate that more than anything else, even more than communism. Both fringes, left and right are authoritarian and I hate that style of government too.

Not that I am going to nor will you read it, but if I wrote my entire views and why I supported each one, you’d think I was soft more than anything.

My point on the papers is this, I don’t mind if they have political bias, I actually expect it, but call out the party that you agree with most if they do something wrong... which the TG does to be fair to them.
You're talking about the Telegraph of ten years ago.
It's now a client newspaper for the Tories.

It’s not about what I like. It’s about recognising bias. The Telegraph’s demographic is old posh Tories and it is by far the most right wing of the broadsheets, including pandering to that demographic’s xenophobia. It’s as biased right wing as the Guardian is left wing. The Indeoendant is left leaning but not as far as The Guardian. The Times is the closest we have to sitting towards the middle. All of them might occasionally have articles which go against their core beliefs but it’s about 1%.

Agree with that summary.

This is literally an opinion piece from today -
Behind the curve and too late – again. On the basis that almost anything Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, says is bound to be flawed, you wouldn’t put much store by her calls for the UK borders to be sealed, à la Australia and New Zealand, so that we can eradicate the virus and then prevent it, or any nasty new variants, coming back in to...
I read it every day and whilst they are ideologically aligned to them, they do often criticise the Tory Party.

I do agree with your comments on the Telegraph - it has become a client newspaper for the Tory party.
Not so sure with the rest of your analysis.
The Times is full on Tory ( it's owned by Murdoch).
The Indy is liberal.
The Guardian is left of centre ( in UK terms that is i.e. not very left).
Unlike it's Tory rivals the Guardian does not give unconditional support for Labour.
The British press (in terms of the number of pro Conservative papers and circulation) has become virtually a mouthpiece for the Tory party and is a national disgrace.

The times has a pretty even split of journalists that are conservative and Labour. It being owned by Murdoch doesn’t mean much tbh.

No, just look how different Sky UK and Aus are, same company, both owned by Murdoch, totally different.

That really is a woeful headline.

I don’t want to get too involved in this discussion, I never read the telegraph so don’t know but the piece you quote criticises Patel not the government. The impression I have of the paper is it’s a bit of a mouthpiece for Boris and slapping down Priti for her comments about closing the borders is really just closing ranks round Johnson

Think there’s a fair bit of truth in that. There’s a lot of ties between Johnson in particular and some of the editors.

You could be right mate but I read quite often and they don’t shirk away from going in at them at times.

It may be similar to City fans on here being critical of the team because they want what’s best for them and have high standards but I don’t know

Do we still get the legal benefit of a two-year guarantee on white goods now we've left or is that up for grabs?

depends if its a fridge you bought to keep stuff cool in or just to hide away from awkward questions. The latter guarantees avoidance of said questions for at least one parliamentary term.

Does that mean she’s right? I’ve not noticed any price rises nor anything I wanted but couldn’t get. Am I right then?

The economy is why I voted remain but it’s been nowhere near as bad as I feared.
The cultural links and movement of people is a huge positive for me from Brexit. I quite link our culture and I don’t support freedom of movement so it’s a plus.
All about immigration then eh?

Why do you imagine it will cut immigration to the sort of numbers you judge low enough?

Who's going to replace EU staff in care homes, cleaning hospitals and offices, in fields, on fishing boats, and in Pret?
They wont get a visa anyway. Not 'valuable' enough for the new anti-discriminatory fantastic new immigration bill..

BBC NI on John Lewis. It‘s becoming bit of an issue for the business correspondent at the beeb :)

‘Now into week four of John Lewis not delivering to Northern Ireland. I recall that back in September when making a Spotlight on the Irish Sea border they were bemused that we were even asking the question & thought the changes wouldn’t apply to them as they have no shops in NI.’

More Brexit benefits...for banks to ‘prosper mightily’. Warms the heart it does.

It's only an extra 1.2%. Compared to the extra 30% shipping and customs costs that people are experiencing it's neither here nor there. Now it's no longer cost effective to buy anything from the EU we won't be making many transactions anyway. These benefits just keep on coming.
