My point is that properly managed gyms should be open. I totally disagree with the logic of of shutting them.
From looking at the people who are anti-vax and anti-mask, the last places that should be open are Gyms. Can't see them wiping the equipment down!

They don't mind a tattoo or being laced with steroids but they won't have a vaccination!

Matt - seriously you haven't a fucking clue - the other day on the Liverpool pre match thread you stated it was scandalous Pep was not playing a striker in such a big game. That comment aged well. It seems you know better than Pep and Chris Whitty now?

Of course Gyms shouldn't be open. People can go for walks and runs to maintain fitness.
I wouldn’t go near a gym if they paid me , how can they be safe with people sweating , breathing faster and handling the equipment constantly, I know it’s wiped down but not for me , out on my mountain bike in the fresh air and country roads .

It's a sad time when over a 1,000 deaths is considered a positive as it's a third down. Just hope that by the end of the month we can get deaths down to less than 350 per day and cases to nearer 1,000 or less. Then by the end of March deaths down to double digits and cases in the low 100's. Some real positive signs that the light at the end of the tunnel is beginning to slowly move nearer and nearer.
Yeah, I agree that there’s not much comfort in those death figures. Whichever way you look at them, they’re depressing. It’s the case numbers - which continue to drop like a stone - that I’m taking heart from.

Had too much good news today?

Sadly here comes some not so good.

Every region goes down with the big cases drop today. Some very low scores.

But the North West goes up! The only one and is the most infected in England today.

With the NW death numbers today as high as they have ever been as a percentage of the England total - having the most cases of every region too sadly reveals that - although this region has been falling too - this is the area right now with the biggest problem in relative terms.

Wonder if Westminster will notice?

It is all but certain now North West will be top of the weekly regional Pop Score table- though as that is calculated on 5 days old data you will almost certainly not hear about that for now.

Odd. I wonder if it's in the large BAME areas not taking up the vaccine, just loads not following the rules or a bit of both? A family near me have had both grandparents around all the time. On Sunday one of their cars was here all day. Mind you none of them appear to have suffered any Ill effects yet.

Of all the things we can't do the gym ban is farcical.
Its proven that we are the most obese nation in Europe and thus why our death rate is horrendous, yet these clowns shut places where people can get fit.
Properly managed gyms would be fine with a booking in system and social distancing.
Yet another thing they have banned. Absolutely disgusting.
Do you seriously think the obese people of this country are clamouring for gyms to reopen?

I don't like not going to the pub or to the match or seeing my Dad but have to do it. You might disagree does not mean it is not the correct decision.

its better than being a third up ! That would be sadder times

all the figures are consistently coming down except vaccines which are going up.

I wonder if that's because of the extra testing being done in certain South Manchester postcodes and positive cases have been found in people with no symptons who ordinarily wouldn't have gone for a test??
This has been happening for several weeks and the NW has been ahead of most southern regions for a week or two.

Mostly it is that the southern regions had a long way to drop but have dropped all that way. The Kent areas I used to update daily for posters in here have not been worth doing as their Weekly Pops fell from over 1000 to under most of Greater Manchester. Swansea has had single figure pop score rises recently when it was over 100 a day.

North West is usually one of the top two or three regions even when numbers are low due to urbanity and population levels so it is mostly just a re-establishing of normality.

As we see because Liverpool which was for weeks way over Manchester has now fallen back below it but we are still seeing the deaths those high Merseyside numbers created because deaths lag cases by weeks.

The North West rise is not huge today - up 258 to 1889 - which other than yesterday is the lowest for 45 days and compares with around 6000 a month ago.

So not remotely a crisis. Just the higher you climb the faster you fall probably.

London fell by 203 to 1567 and was 5 times that a month ago.

The East fell below 1000 to 946 - a month ago over 5000.

South East down 191 to 1330 - a month ago was over 7000.

South West below 1000 at 926 and was 3000 plus a month ago.

In the Midlands East down a third to 1054 - was up to 3500 a month ago

And West Midlands down 430 to 1374 - versus a month ago around 5000.

Whilst in the north the North East has been sub 1000 for two weeks now and was only ever up around 1500.

And Yorkshire is at its lowest in a couple of months at 1035 but even a month ago was barely double that.

So it is all relative. And I don't think there is a real issue in the North West to worry about

Spot on long walks with my dog in the countryside and over the hills, then I do my sound of music bit.

Completely agree. I love the gym and was in a good routine of 3-4 times per week, some music and and excercise, really good for you but it's crazy to suggest opening them at this stage. As you say, fresh air excercise or if you're not a fan of running/cycling then we should be thankful in this day in age of YouTube videos with instructors for the time being. It's not ideal, but nothing is at the mo and it's a small price to pay for the greater good.

What if you work and don't have time for that
Its bS gyms cant open, we are a fat nation and going to the gym gives people focus

Greater Manchester update

This is better news.

Everywhere is up a bit but the rise is slightly less than the split of the NW rise would require.

Cases up 95 (out of the 258 NW increase) So % fell to 38.9% of NW total from 39.3%

But at 736 cases that is the second lowest bar yesterday in ages and is down on last Tuesday.

So whilst every borough went up v yesterday mostly by not much and all bar 3 are below the number they had last Tuesday.

Bolton was the biggest riser - going back over 100 to 119

Manchester only up two to an other than yesterday lowest for ages of 130 - so cases from here not a factor.

Everybody else below 100.

Trafford yet again the best numbers everywhere - though up too - but only to 37. The only score below 50.

Trafford is going to be top on every measure soon as it took another big bite into Stockport's overall Pop Score lead and if it carries on at this rate will gain that crown too with 10 days or so.

But nowhere today had a disaster and 7 boroughs out of 10 will have improved their weekly pop numbers when I work them out for the full table later.

Fat fuckers don't use gyms. Don't use that excuse. Gyms are not essential
Well I go into a higher BMI category with gyms close so that means more chance of getting seriously ill from.covid

Plenty of fat people use the gym , I seen loads turning there lives around

More than ever gyms need to be open
