Assistant manager , this guy has blue blood and has great football and life intelligence.

Wonderful influence off the field in the changing room/training ground.

Potential future manager for me.

The president of one of the Brazilian clubs trying to tempt him back home recently let slip that it might be difficult because Ferna is applying for UK citizenship for himself and his family - his kids are very settled locally at school and his lad with a kids football team etc. Would seem to suggest he is staying in some capacity. Great to have such an experienced voice around the dressing room after the loss of Vinnie, David etc.
No reason he can’t go on to be as influential as many thought Arteta was

Fernandinho has offer to become Guardiola's assistant at Man City, claims Atletico Mineiro's Rodrigo Caetano

Source

The club’s director Rodrigo Caetano has confirmed his interest in Fernandinho, but claimed that City have offered him a coaching role.

“There is a lot of speculation because he is coming to the end of his contract,” Caetano told O Tempo . “He is a reference point at City - not only on the pitch, but a lot off the pitch too.

“I don't know if you know, but there is even an offer for him to join Pep as an assistant.

“He is very interesting to us, because he is very good on the pitch and excellent off it as well.

“But there are no negotiations at the moment with Fernandinho or his agents."

Just like I predicted :) Sometimes I shock myself with my own foresight. :P

Surprisingly, I've heard he's going to be offered a 12 month extension to his playing contract, and that it's likely to be accepted. Seems odd to me, given the need to free up slots in the squad and space on the wage bill for incoming signings.

I suppose, as we've seen this season, he is perfectly capable of coming in from the cold and doing a job (obviously can cover CB too) so it makes sense. If it's true that he's looking to become an assistant, then i'd say a player coach role being offered would be perfect. Foden was talking about how amazing he is in the dressing room already, so it sounds like a natural fit to me.

Maybe the funds are needed elsewhere? If he is to take up a coaching role it makes sense to keep him for an additional year to transition roles IMO. We need characters like Fern around the club. Hopefully Zaba, Komps make a return when the time is right.

Fern has to be a prized asset at the club, great dressing room presence, tactical genius and invaluable in assisting us to sign some of Brazil's young talents.

Great news if so. Easily has another season in him.

It goes without saying that a professional footballer's career is short. He'll be retired for a long time. He should keep playing as long as his body allows him to and he can maintain the necessary standard.

Excellent news if true. He is still one of the best defensive midfielders around and an excellent motivator and role model for our youngsters. As for an earlier comment about him applying for UK citizenship, didn't Yaya Tour do that before going to China and now Ukraine?

Considering what Foden recently said about him, the club probably thinks he's still a big voice in the dressing room which is invaluable with this young team

Though he is a millennial, he's in that older mould of player - tough, uncompromising, puts everything on the line to win, always leads by example. Naturally young guys are going to be impressed by it.

We lost a lot of that with Vinny. Although Ruben is showing promising signs, Fern is one of the few in the squad with those characteristics.

But even how Foden mentioned that he arranged a meeting with the team when was struggling earlier on the season for a talk about how they need to turn it around

Pep wants us to win everything, so that's 50/60 games a season. We either need Douglas Luiz or another DM and bring Fernandinho into the coaching team, or extend Fernandinho's contract.

Leaving the UK and returning to Brazil might not be the easiest thing to do in the next 12 months, so it might be an idea to have him around as a bridge between players and coaching staff.
