Raheem Sterling he's top of the league :)
That's a good assessment about last night, I wish we got more level headed responses like this.Wasn’t overly involved last night. Seemed to be instructed to largely stay wide and stretch the pitch. We definitely prioritized the Walker/Bernardo/Mahrez combination on the other flank, to pretty decent effect it should be said
Does look a bit more confident in taking people on right now, but wasn’t able to do so in dangerous areas of the pitch last night
Well said. Constructive criticism is fine, but it gets tedious for most of us when player threads just descend into the same arguments between the same posters. If someone doesn’t think Sterling is playing well that’s fine, they should be able to voice that opinion as long as it’s considered and balanced instead of hyperbolic nonsense. Equally though, it’s not necessary to keep making the same points ad nauseum after every single performance. That tends to wind people up.There's a difference between discussing a players performance, and saying the player should be sold and isn't good enough.
If you don't believe people make comments on the latter, then you might wanna look at this thread from the beginning of this season.
I think people should be allowed to criticize Sterling (any player), even if we play well, that's not my problem, my problem is the extreme negativeness of reactions that he should be sold or he doesn't even have footballing ability, those comments are so hyperbolic they scream bias, stubborness or stupidity.
Repetitious arguments over the same game/performance are indeed tiring. A quick comment that such performance has continued into the next game is fine.Well said. I’ve tidied the thread up again today, but we’ll have to start issuing thread bans in future if it carries on. Keep it sensible, and use the ignore function if necessary.

That's fair, and I'll expand what I mean as I perhaps wasnt clear. So using two examples.....its ok to suggest Mahrez or Jesus arent good enough or could be sold, but Sterling is off limits?
What's the difference?
That sounds very selective and hardly fitting of reasonable debate, does it not?

Im not sure you have read the Mahrez thread,he isnt wanted at our club and the comments dont sugar coat that fact.Equally Jesus is constantly berated by some as being not good enough, get rid. That's fair, and I'll expand what I mean as I perhaps wasnt clear.
Anybody can feel any player isnt good enough (Sterling) included, but what I see is then insults towards Sterling and even lies about all that he has offered over 5 years and how vital he has been.
The Jesus debates are currently specific to his finishing and I feel the discussions havent gone into insults or lies, they are good discussions that are interesting, unlike the Sterling ones.
The Mahrez debates are usually about his consistency with people giving examples about that, and also perhaps about whether he fits out stylr, and the arguments are fair and civilized for whichever side your on.
To br clear, I dont want to be the thought police here, but also, hate and lies towards a player really suck. Similar things happened in Rodri and Gundogans thread where some criticisms were good, but they were drowned out by the hate and lies towards them.
Like I said, posters can say they dont want Mahrez at the club. If it has escalated into hates and lies then that isnt good, and I'd agree with you.Im not sure you have read the Mahrez thread,he isnt wanted at our club and the comments dont sugar coat that fact.Equally Jesus is constantly berated by some as being not good enough, get rid.
What lies have been said about Sterling? what isnt fair?

I dont see anything like this on Jesus thread which I am more often reading, like I said, some people may criticize his finishing in some instances and ne unhappy want him gone, that's fine, they can be wrong, but as long as it's not hateful or constant lies then its fine.
As for Sterling, some people criticism him so unfairly they even go as far as to say he is physically weak or a poor tackler, this is very reaching. I have also read people say Sterling has no football IQ, and I could list more. They are insulting and just not true.
So the 'lies' are that he doesn't show enough strength and he isn't a poor tackler.Like I said, posters can say they dont want Mahrez at the club. If it has escalated into hates and lies then that isnt good, and I'd agree with you.

Answering even though you didn't pose the question for me...Do you see any negatives or weaknesses in his game? if so.....what do you think he could improve on?
Please reply to my comments once if you can, keeps things neater in here, I will reply to both messages here.Do you see any negatives or weaknesses in his game? if so.....what do you think he could improve on?

Any weaknesses/negatives currently... not really for me. Sometimes he'll go cold and struggle a bit - but all players are that way.
Otherwise - Sterling very often beats his man or sometimes multiple men on defense, able to cut in towards goal and deliver a cross - or at the top of the box, he'll often cut inwards and deliver a telling shot.
Personally, I'm really very happy with Sterling - he's improved tremendously under Pep's tutelage.
Oh yeah I wrote that wrong. I meant 1on1 finisher, not dribbler, my mistake.@WallyA
>> "Sterling is not very good at 1on1s"
Can you provide some evidence of this? - site games where this occurs preferably with game footage.
For me, Sterling is a deadly quick, able dribbler - he'll beat one or more opponents with frequency to the touchline to deliver a cross - too, he'll beat many defenders for pace moving central to deliver a shot.
Yeah, he's a bit inconsistent still when 1-on-1 with the keeper in front of goal - but he's much, much better now than in the past. I put his improvement in large part down to Pep, instilling confidence. Probably he's going to get even more clinical as time goes by.Oh yeah I wrote that wrong. Been writing too much on here lol.
I'll leave the mistake there though.
Thank you for touching on his faults, even if you did your best to dilute them. Please reply to my comments once if you can, keeps things neater in here, I will reply to both messages here.
Sterling is not very good at 1on1s and is more of an instinctive finisher. He is also not varied in his abilities to create chances for others, it's not in his game and I'm okay with it, his link up play somewhat makes up for it but not fully. Hes also a confidence player, his overall game improved with belief, you see him take on more and more players lately, I accept that he needs this, I can see others not happy that he needs it though.
I'm not gonna go back deep into this thread because I'm not crazy, but I've heard people say like I already said, that he has no football IQ, he cant pass, he cant control the ball or dribble. He wouldn't last this long under Pep if those things were true. Probably more I heard but I dont have the time.
