Behave yourselves :))

Fantastic stat.

Although it's worth pointing out that his 8.55 pressures per game in the league would put him behind every Manchester City player except the central defenders.

Even Mendy has managed 8.93.

To be fair, Gundogan is 9.35 so we're talking about him needing to press once more per game.

Rodri, Bernardo, KDB, Jesus are all around 15 per game.

Even if hes not the player he was, if I turn up to the etihad first game of next season, and I get to sit in my seat again next to my dad and I see Messi walking out in sky blue I’ll never forget that moment
And if we still had Nike signing him would be no guarantee of that.

Well fuck me sideways Doris, let’s hope that City sign him so you can have your nostalgic moment

If we sign him he should be on the same wage as, say Kev or sterling fuck paying him £500,000 p/w.
Pay him a big signing on fee, then his wages should be on par with some of our top earner

Also, for those at the back, Haaland and new LB does not get impacted by Messi.
I’ve never understood this POV.

We are the richest club in the world and if it wasn’t for FFP then I would agree. We could buy and pay anyone we wanted.

However, our budget on players is limited by FFP constraints whether we like it or not. There is a FINITE amount of money we can spend. There is no ‘special fund put to one side for Messi’.

Now if, given these constraints, the club can still afford Messi AND Haaland then, if the club hierarchy decide they want Messi then even though I personally don’t want him here under any circumstances, I would make my peace with the decision as our club have not put a foot wrong since the takeover and I would trust their judgement.

If it is a case of only having one or the other then only an imbecile would choose a 34 yr old fading Messi over a Haaland that would score goals for fun and potentially give us 10 years service and STILL pay us back with a transfer fee in 2031.

It’s immaterial anyway IMO as I am convinced of two things:
1) Pep wouldn’t sign him as his wages and other costs would far outweigh his perceived value to the team and
2) Messi is using us - yet again - as a means to squeeze further concessions out of Barcelona. He probably has an eye on a place on the board and a percentage of club earnings.

The reason the Messi deal is considered an independent seperate financial pot is because of the ability to renegotiate sponsorship deals in light of his signing. If we're able to do so, we'd effectively be able to pay for Messi using increased income and it shouldn't have a financial bearing on our other dealings.

More Sun bullsh*t, rehashed by the other tabloids.

Manchester City 'offer Lionel Messi fresh terms worth £430MILLION over five years - £170M LESS than what was proposed last summer' as the Premier League leaders make a new move to bring the Barcelona star to the Etihad

So he walks around in a game , can you imagine the space Foden, Bernie, Gundog and Kdb would get while the other team tried to stop Messi walking around ?

I'm a big fan of stats but you've really misinterpreted those.

Firstly, all it says is that when Messi presses he's the most successful presser percentage wise. This is a good thing in fairness.

In terms of the number of presses, he's 3rd in the list behind Salah and Rashford.
In terms of presses per 90, he's behind those two and Neymar. He's ahead of Ronaldo and Mbappé (who both have numbers which are really, really low).

Per 90, Messi would be behind every City player excluding the centre backs in number of presses, although he'd be high up in terms of success rate.

So it looks like he's an efficient presser, but he doesn't press too often.

As an aside, an interesting insight into City this season shows as a team we press a lot less, but particularly up front. Jesus and Mahrez (yes, really) were two of our hardest working pressing players last season but this season the forwards are all pressing a lot less compared to the midfielders.
Could that Possibly be the reason we look so much fresher when we attack the final third?

I don't agree your take on the finances (as i understand them anyway) nor with your reasons for not wanting him here.

But you could well be right with your 1 and 2.

time will tell

I hope we aren’t prioritising signing messi over Mbappe or Haaland. This club has always done well in planning for the future and it’s been a large reason for our success. Messi just feels like an indulgent dream that can only reap short term rewards for Man City (yes I realise for the city group if he moves to New York there’s longevity there).

I tend to agree with you.
He would come here only because he does not want to be there. And when he arrives he could soon decide he doesn't want to be here.

A lot of doommongering about if, *if*, we sign this guy. Questions about his impact I can take but about his attitude? If he's motivated by money he'll have bigger offers elsewhere. Realistically what is the most likely reason he would he swap Barcelona for Manchester? Because he wants to win. I have no concerns about his attitude if we sign him.

Yep, you are roughly correct. Some ppl sometimes confuse hard work in the final third and managerial instructions. We don't press as high up as we used to, due to managerial instructions.

When a team (us) doesn't press from the front, it gives the opposition the opportunity to push higher up and alleviate attacking pressure, thus allowing us to counter-attack and attack from a deeper position - giving us more space in the final third.

The higher/quicker our forwards press, the higher likelihood the opposition loses the ball quicker. Thus, the less chance they have to push up and leave space behind.

A "source" at the club no denying any approaches have been made:

That’s that then!

just a striker this summer or Sergio signs a year extension and maybe buy just another left back and Pep favourite position another midfielder
