that's just shifting responsibility from governance to private sector. have some balls and legislate it, if that's the way you want to country to operate.
You'd be setting a very dangerous precedent there, effectively saying 'you cannot live a normal life unless you have a government mandated foreign body forcibly put inside your own.'

I'm all for private businesses requiring some for of proof to allow entry to their premises - they're private businesses, that's their prerogative - but the moment you pass legislation requiring it you're opening some doors i'd rather see remain closed.

Nah, sooner we start improving the economy, the better for all. Especially the young who are going to be hit hardest when this is over. Travel industry employs youth, older people spend the money.
Exactly. Unless the over 60s get back out spending money when it's safe there won't be a tourist industry in Greece, or Great Yarmouth or wherever.

I must admit, I did expect to see less 80+ dying from this by now. Too early still?

It has not been over 50% for two weeks now and that is certainly not usual

Numbers have fallen so fast also that this means far less over 60s have not died as they are the bulk of the numbers every day. So 90% of the reduction every day IS of over 60s. As in today nearly 200 fewer over 60s died than reported last Wednesday.

It is hard to know what impact on % to expect when numbers are dropping fast and getting this low.

Plus testing positive to death is usually at least a month and given the dates of deaths being reported may even be longer as there have been plenty back dated weeks.

Really it was only a month or so ago we really started vaccinating in big numbers and there is a 2 - 3 week lag to immunity.

All told we are in the early days of the vaccine effect and the deaths are dropping faster than I think anyone expected.

Will we see a significant change in the % numbers ever? I am not entirely sure.

Susceptibility will still be with the older ages regardless of how well the vaccines work because they are more likely to have other problems that even a milder covid attack moderated by the vaccine might still trigger.

I doubt we will ever see 30% over 80s 20% over 60s and 50% under 60.

And if we do by then numbers will be so low we will be talking tiny numbers.

I am not a maths whiz or statistician so hopefully someone who is can comment. I freely admit I am just guessing here with no surety there should or should not be an obvious change in percentages.

Perhaps the drop from 58% to 48% we have seen is all we will get.

Think people in the UK would be advised to book 'staycations' this summer. European Union countries are facing lengthening delays in terms of accessing vaccines, so even in places such as Greece, things are unlikely to be anywhere back to normal, even if things are in the UK. EU countries will also be under pressure from each other to protect their borders as well; maybe Cyprus or the Spanish islands will be better placed to accept UK tourists later in the summer. Greece has only said it 'may' welcome tourists again, after Easter in May, and then it would require adults to provide evidence that they have been vaccinated, and accompanying minors would have to provide negative test results.

Whem the lockdown ends there's going to be a risky period with a lot more social contact and inevitably higher infection rate before a lot of people get vaccinated. That period worries me. I would have been more comfortable with restrictions loosening after vaccination and not before, however the world does not revolve around me.
So, genuine question. You’d advocate staying in lockdown until August when all adults are offered the vaccine? No schools, no interaction, no socialising? And then what about those who can’t/won’t have the vaccine?
