Political relations between UK-EU

Agreed. To be honest, I gave up posting Brexit bad news, too much of it and too easy. NI will be where it blows up, Govt can’t accept the consequences of the deal it agreed and this state of denial will end tears.

I think you dismiss blue ( black? ) French produced passports and stopping (our own ) freedom of movement too easily Bob - surprised none of the ultra's bring these up at all lol

I suggested ages ago we should have a pro-Brexit and an anti-Brexit thread. We've got one, because the Brexiters have given up finding any Brexit good news.
Seriously though, has something happened. Is there a thread ban or something, because it’s a little odd TBH.
I don’t miss the endless bickering but I would expect a more balanced opposing or alternate view occasionally. It provokes more thought and forces you to look at things a different way.

every politician - every newspaper - every person in fishing who pushed for Brexit and were either too dumb to understand the consequences or too duplicitous to let the truth be known - and when it turns out not to be what they sold or bought want it changing - life isn't like that folks

There is a fantastic article just up on The Telegraph by Lord Frost telling the EU to get over Brexit. I'm delighted to see him in charge of UK/EU relations as Michael Gove seemed like a Theresa May clone by pussyfooting around them whilst they have been taking the piss.

Stand by for fireworks as up to now it has been very much one way.

Being the shouty little entity will not win us friends nor benefits. I predict because of Frosty the Showman's track record we will break international law, sink the GFI, bring empty shelves to NI and God knows where that will lead and sanctions from Biden's America - thankfully we will have blue ( black ) passports

Having just read the the first few lines due to not being a Telegraph subscriber, I am getting the impression that the article is targeted at the more gullible Brexit supporters. From what I’ve seen so far the EU are simply implementing the agreement in line with what we signed up to and we’re seeing our collective arse because they’re treating us as a third country just like we wanted, which you describe as them taking the piss. We need to get over the fact that we’ve left and are now being treated in exactly the same way as any other country that’s not in the SM and CU.

I’m not a subscriber so won’t be able to read it but besides grandstanding for his audience does he also take the opportunity to calm the anxieties of fishermen, exporters, etc and explain to us the benefits of Brexit we are reaping but are too confused to understand?

Does the Telegraph have any less gullible Brexit supporters?

"When I voted to leave the EU in 2016, I did so because I thought decisions about our country should be made by the people of this country. Polling shows that many voted to leave for the same reason – for democracy. Even now, the central importance of being responsible for our future as a country is often lost. The public debate about what happens now after Brexit is still at least as much about the details of customs and form-filling – important though that is – and not about the huge advantages we now have in being able to choose a government able to set our laws in every area of our national life. The Treaty I negotiated last year reflects those central propositions about Brexit."

At least he's not blaming anyone else!

Could you provide some detail and context regarding the 'fantastic' article.
Otherwise you're just coming across as a WUM.

Haha, says Len.

Obviously there will be nothing in it for you to take away but the gist of it is saying that the fact is we have left the EU and so the focus should be on working on a mutually beneficial relationship. He details how that isn't the case currently and there is also a suggestion that if the EU continues to be obstructive then there is a bit coming their way.

One bit I've read recently is that EU exports of bottled water are only allowed into the UK on a temporary basis. This may well not be renewed and it will hit mainly France. This is the equivalent or more of the EU shell fish ban.

Yep, getting into a trade war with the EU isn't absolutely fucking stupid at all.

So we do nothing and let the EU decide what we can sell to them or not?

It's an option, obviously, but it looks like not one the government will be taking. I think it will be a case of trying to work constructively with the EU but with the option of targeted retaliatory measures if needed.

Retaliation for what?
Implementing mutually agreed rules?

Using your example I would expect the UK bottled water industry to take advantage of the increased cost of importing Evian anyway and consumers will buy more British water, hopefully to offset reduced exports to some extent. A new natural balance will be found within the new rules. Everyone will be a bit worse off but that’s inevitable when trade barriers are erected, and it’s what we voted for.

Yeah, let's show them we mean business.

When will Frost get round to doing this?
