United (H) Post Match Thread

Not read the whole thread so it may have been mentioned already but throw ins, particularly in our own half drive me crazy !

We conceded the penalty from our own throw in from the same position and throw we conceded the goal against Wolves/West Ham (can't remember which).

If there is no player free don't make a risky throw infield, throw the ball up the line and compete for the second ball - basics.

Agreed, but it was all a little too comfortable for United still at the back.

I'm not even sure what Kevin's current role in the team is?

This will no doubt sound harsh, but he has forgotten the thing which makes him so special, his unselfishness.

IMO, this season he has been playing the game much more for himself, essentially a free role, but seemingly more intent on shooting at goal, attempting more 'Hollywood' passes.

A lot of the top players do this when they know how good they are, maybe don't want to trust other players to do the job?

I genuinely think we might have already seen peak De Bruyne from a fitness point of view, there have been tell-tale signs for about a year that while he will catch the eye when he does attempt to press and chase down, he is now more akin to Sergio in this respect, rather than Jesus, in his intelligence of doing it effectively?

Sometimes one of your most potent weapons can also be a weakness, so I would like to see Kev operate the false nine a lot more, rather than be just a big name body into the standard midfield three.
What pissed me off more about Kev yesterday was he couldn’t even play the simple passes. I can excuse the odd failed Hollywood ball but he was throwing his arms aloft as if it was his teammates fault when he fucked up a 10 yard simple pass. As you intimate, he’s thinking he’s a bit better than he is at the moment, and Pep is scared of upsetting him when he’s yet to sign the new deal. Same with Raz.

Neither were penalties, nowhere near.

The first one was laughable, Sterling overran the ball as usual and fell over his own feet.

We created half chances, all shots from either distance or scuffed.

If you break it down, only Zinchenko's drive from the edge of the area and Rodri's off the top of the bar gave Henderson much to even worry about.

We had plenty of better opportunities than the one Shaw scored from. Gundo made shots that on another day he would have put in the onion bag.

Foden should have scored.

Sterling had the goal gaping but made an air shot.

Martial wasted their best chance; although credit to Eddie for a good save.

Have had time to think this one over, but honestly the same view only comes back.
Utd have Martial and Rashford play from the left so we have Cancelo still trying to come into midfield and getting caught in possession or giving the ball away. Big error in not playing Walker, but Cancelo was poor.
Rodri played poorly as did KDB. Many on Bluemoon expected Fern to play and sure Bernado should have been in.
We all know Foden should have been in from the start. I could see why Pep picked Mahrez given his performance midweek, but neither he or Sterling produced. The less said about Jesus the better.
We go behind early and the tone of the game was set.
The second, Cancelo loses the ball and Utd are on the counter. Couple more phases of play and Shaw puts it in the net. You see from the high camera angle, Cancelo is still jogging back having long given up the chase...shocking

That's real conjecture that Pep is scared of upsetting him.

In our household we were subbing him early in the game but as I keep repeating, he ended up with 8 key passes and no other City player is likely to generate that many in one game. I suspect that is why Pep keeps him on the pitch but if he continues to give the ball cheaply on simple passes, I don't think Pep will stand for it.

We'll see.

Stupid and unnecessary challenge.

Even without that, I still think we would have struggled to win the game, the way Pep set us up played to their strengths.

They have pace on the counter and very good defensive full backs, we had little pace or energy yesterday.
Well if there's little energy after one more days rest than them ,something is wrong . I'm not buying the tiredness argument simply because the other teams have had to play the same amount of games every 3/4 days.
Their full backs were on it to be fair in which case we dig in more and manage the game , move ball about ,grind them down etc Our possession , and pass completion stats are excellent for this game. It's so frustrating to lose the game when we could easily have gotten something out of it I feel.

Possession stats are great if you do something with the ball, yesterday we did not.

Stats are the most overrated thing about the modern game.

Maybe Kev had a lot more respect for the core of the old team David Silva ,Kun , Vinny and Fern but looks at the current bunch and thinks these lot aren’t of that same standard . It looks like he’s in a different wavelength . I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought I don’t fit in here.

It's no good watching utd last 3 or so matches it means nothing Pep. When they play us they raise their game 200%. Pep needs to remember this, it's a derby, a team that uses our Citys name that arent in or from Manchester. They now bang on that Manchester is red even though they are from Trafford.
We dont say Trafford is blue ! So utd piss of back to Trafford you are nothing to do with Manchester.

I hope Pep understands how bad it feels to lose to this lot. I really hate the fact they can use our Citys name. We have a team using our name now claiming our City is red and arent even from our City. They are a fake Manchester club.

Think I need a lie down in a darken room :(
If we were still in the EU we could have started legal proceedings a la Cornish pasties and Cassis de Dijon

His 3 yard passed were pretty crap yesterday, let alone the attempted Hollywood ones. Lost count the number of times he gave the ball away or put a player under ridiculous pressure with a pass too short etc. Which for a possession-based team, really messes us up.

Maybe the other lads feel the same, we have hardly missed him during his injury, Bernardo and Gundo thrived, same thing happened in the formidable season.

KDB is a wonderful player but there are times I wonder if we are sometimes a better team without him.

Just seen this ;-)

i keep seeing "the wrong players were chosen" forget the doom and gloom we dominated that game , we actually played better yesterday than against west ham, we kept the ball and we created chances, that's all that pep can do, he trusts the players he chooses to do their jobs, they did their jobs in so much they had 66% and they also created 23 shooting chances, that tells you what sort of game it was , we dominated possession and we had more than enough chances to win 3 games , rodri puts that in the net and its 1-1 ,united would of shit their pants and we would be 22 games unbeaten , all ifs and buts.

Totally agree he was the same against West Ham at times, constantly losing possession

To soon For kdb that game...No Walker Foden, Bernardo ie.. full of energy.....brain fart from Jesus at the start...onwards we go.

I think stats flattered us... yes 23 shots but only 5 on target? they had 6 on target i think, and had the best chance of the game with martial... ours were half chances at best (especially when sterling is on the end of things then its a flip of a coin). We didnt look like scoring and you could tell with their attitude and work-rate from pretty early on in the game. As many have said on here... hopefully its a wake up call.

...We lost a lot when Dave left, and him being able to receive the ball in tight spaces from a throw in was one aspect.

Bernie is the only one who can do similar.
Really? The most gifted team I have ever seen in the Prem haven't got players that can receive the ball from a throw-in, surrounded by the opposition? Back to the very basics then, Pep.

However, I will agree that our throw-ins are atrocious.

Yes, even the right hand side, but I happen to think that is Foden's best position for the next couple years?

Mahrez has played well recently and didn't do much wrong yesterday, couldn't fault his effort, so Pep should get back to picking players on performance, rather than reputation?

Allowing for tiredness, granted. Everyone goes on about our big squad but there have been signs of tiredness since before Arsenal game?

Mahrez has clearly played himself into the team with his performances over the past month, which in turn makes it even more baffling that we just persist with Sterling and De Bruyne whilst stifling our top scorer and leaving our best presser of the ball on the bench against a team that were set up to counter
