Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I kind of agree but you know I have a lot of time for Jacinda and what she is trying to do re politics round wellbeing outputs rather than economic ones. Its difficult to know exactly when the data from that report is taken. It can be as far back as 2016 for the (for example) poverty information so lets see what happens in the next couple of years. I like OAC too and its hardly surprising that both of them get a good press. Both being young, open and refreshingly honest in their views. They have achieved a hell of a lot less than other world leaders like Merkel and the South Korean lady, but maybe their time will come.
I have no problem with Ardern at all, I’d much rather her than Boris to be honest. She’s not done much to reverse child poverty though and has fallen short.

AOC is overrated imo, I’ve seen her totally flop on being able to talk about specific ideology in politics, no attack on her age as she’s older than me, but she strikes me as a 6th former, with their heart in the right place, but no real understanding. Says the right things and has got support because of what she is rather than ability.

My fear is that the future of America will be Trump Jnr vs AOC in the battle for Instagram memes.

Another man who’s overrated but my God, what I would do for 8 years of Obama

Look so like the machine is trying to neuter AOC and the squad. No surprise as Biden is neoliberal.

The first black POTUS, overrated? You must have very high standards. Who do you rate as a politician?

Better ask him mate. His standards.
Don’t you think it was an achievement of note to become first black POTUS? or are you suggesting colour doesn‘t come into politics in the USA?
not quite sure of your motivation for posting that.
I think I was more trying to discover the motivation for your post. You can have a view that being the first black POTUS is an achievement but still be a poor POTUS. I was looking for an analysis on his presidency beyond his skin colour. Apologies if you thought I was implying more

I'm hoping he's talking more about his foreign policy than his colour.

His colour is absolutely irrelevant to me, it doesn’t even register on how I judge his term, although now you mention it, I am glad they had a black President, it’s a huge step to equality over there.

No, he was just middle of the road, continued and even increased bombing in the Middle East, same immigration policy as before, Obamacare was a good idea but ultimately didn’t happen, he was the status quo but his persona and the respect he got around the world was great.

People love him for the latter but ignore the former and that’s why I think he was a bit overrated.

I’d absolutely love 8 more years of him over there though and someone similar for 10 years here, based on the shit show the West is in now.

Ok mate, thanks for the clarification. I am probably not the best person to give a balanced view as I truly think he is a marvellous and exceptional human being above all else. I have always found him inspirational. I do think it took an exceptional candidate to become first black potus so I do see that as a standalone achievement. His presidency had ups and downs but I believe he always tried to do the ‘right thing‘ be that foreign policy or Obamacare. His failure to improve gun control was a failure but let’s face it, it’s not an easy thing to do in the States. He also battled against GOP control in both houses for much of his presidency. that he did make progress with the economy and social justice against that background to me makes him a very good president. He went through two tenures and finished with @ very high personal rating. He has acted with decency and kindness and with Michelle is still an aspirational role model to millions. Which is why I reacted to ‘overated’. But as I have said, I am a bit of a fan boy.

Was this supposed to be to me?

If so, yeah I agree it was a great achievement and he was probably the best candidate for decades on paper. His term didn’t really change much and how much of that being his fault, I don’t know but I think the man is very impressive, his term just good. I think the former is what people tend to take.

Michelle makes me laugh. Why is she qualified to do anything? She’s just the spouse of someone doing a job. Not being sexist, if Theresa May’s husband started piping up I’d tell him to shut up too.

This, whilst being a little rude with it being stand up, is where I’m coming from...

Oh, it practically answered my post and not his.

Never mind.

At least I’ve answered you on the point of Obama’s race not being an issue.
You have lost me on that first sentence.
I didn't question you about Obama's race being an issue. I asked you, if you think he is 'overrated' who do you rate as a politician?

I was just answering it.

I do rate him, doesn’t mean I don’t think some overrate him.

American politicians I rate are Obama, Bill Clinton (although a despicable man), Reagan (although he’s too right wing for me).

British ones I rate are Blair, Thatcher, Attlee, Churchill, I think had the most ability, not that I agree with them all necessarily.

I am big fan of Starmer to be honest and I want him to be the next PM.

Hey @Bigga — look! You and Tucker Carlson agree on something.

Carlson taking the piss there.

I'd feel the same as she does of I was told there's credible information I was going to be murdered at work and one of my colleagues who supported it was still in the same place.

She’s raised $3m for Texans whilst their own senator hopped onto a plane to Mexico with his family for a little jolly.

Remarkable woman.
