If it is as bad as it sounds on the meritocracy front, the best thing we can do is NEVER turn up for a game in the competition.

Show City they are fools for going along with it and BOYCOTT the competition.

Yep, those two clubs not involved provides some hope here.

Uefa should be working the phones.

I don't trust Bayern or PSG, but you can cause a split which calls a few bluffs if you have clubs such as them and us on the other side of the fence.

The Saudis will be very interested observers.

Newcastle fans will be sweating again on this.

What if the teams in the premier who won’t be invited tell those clubs if you join we will not play you or have a break away with the big clubs in championship? If those clubs had the bollocks it would shake some of the those clubs up if they can’t rely on premier money!

Good point.

I love the idea of a league format of two groups of 10 instead of the contrived shite the CL currently is. But sacking the likes of Leicester WestHam Atalanta Lille etc off for the likes of Arsenal is a disgrace!
It’s really not though is it? (And that hurts a lot to say it)
Who generates; the most short sales, the most tv subscriptions, the most social media activity, the most pundits, etc, etc. It’s Arsenal, it’s Liverpool, it’s the historical powers. Those realities are finally beginning to overtake the value of league position. The sad, cynical, greedy truth.

I won’t be going to the Etihad if this happens, unless I’m required to in an official capacity in the future. The end for me, City will still be City but any future achievements in that format will be tarnished

We will essentially have our finances at the whim of the clubs who have been trying to fuck us for 10 years.

Not a chance this ends well for City
Spot on JMG. Personally I believe this development would have occurred with or without City or PSG. It was inevitable once American ownership of clubs with sway took off and the corridors of football power were filled to tipping point with the vile self interested and corrupt.

City and PSG have acted as an accelerant. The disparity in the super rich English TV deals and inflated transfers etc has also rocked the foundations. If we sign up we become poor relations and if we don’t we become even poorer. For supporters of a certain age like me it’s another blow to what I have cherished for over 50 years.

Unfortunately for me and maybe other likeminded posters the people orchestrating the changes don’t give a shit about the older generation of fans Coz we won’t be paying the bills in 10-15 years. They also don’t give a shit about the history and heritage or what happens to clubs beneath their lofty perch. And generally speaking today’s youth have a different perspective on supporting a club. Look at any footage of games from the 70s and 80s. The age profile of attendees was far younger than today. Many of today’s ‘fans’ don’t go to games and maybe can’t because they live thousands of miles away.

In the short term this proposal would give the pigs at the trough opportunity to pay down debt, maximise dividends and maybe even strike super lucky with asset sales. Hell it might even influence impending transfers.

it’s another manifestation of the ‘advancement’ evident in other traditional sports - cricket with the IPL, Rugby Union and cricket with central contracts, athletics with the Diamond League et al.

I do predict though, that if it does take off the cozy arrangement will implode in a few years because some animals will always want to be more equal than others.

I will watch with interest how it plays out but I just find myself getting more and more disillusioned. Thank the lord for the last 10 years.

According to some reports they reckon that there will be an official announcement this evening !

This is going to be very interesting if that happens

“Super” league.
No french or German teams, only us from the “top 6”
Doesn’t sound very super to me, sounds more like the club World Cup.

Edit. I’d miss read the “only us signed up from the top 6”, knobhead : )
Seems we are the only ones not to, yet.
So if it’s replacing the champions league there’s only one question that matters..
can I still boo the crappy anthem?

You become historical powers over time. After two decades of being run well and with good seasons, Leicester can be one of those clubs. Leicester are a one club city with very few big clubs around their catchment areas, West Ham easily could become another City as they have a huge support.

Arsenal are going one way... they’re poorly run. They are the epitome of a mediocre modern football club, and after a few decades as such, their elite years will be an afterthought.

That’s the good thing about football.

ManCity surely have more 'Club awareness' than Juve, Inter or Atletico.
We have been the best team in the most followed league for the past decade.
Anyone know how that is calculated ?
Only applies to the American owed franchises.
