It’s not. It’s money. Real, Barca, Atletico, Juve, City and Chelsea qualify almost every single year anyway. I genuinely think that if UEFA offered an oil branch of sorts financially whilst keeping the competitive integrity of the competition by ensuring that clubs would have to qualify on merit these clubs would agree.

The closed shop aspect will have no doubt been pushed by the American owners of United, Arsenal and to a lesser extent Liverpool, as the competition for CL football is too fierce in the PL. 4 spots for 6+ teams so there’s always a couple of “big” teams who will miss out.

Naturally it also suits Milan, Inter and Spurs but it will have been driven by the Americans.

Fan groups associated with all six English clubs involved in the European Super League proposal are strongly opposed.

Liverpool supporters' group Spirit of Shankly (SOS) said it was "appalled" by the decision of Fenway Sports Group, the club's US-based owner. In a social media post, SOS said: "FSG have ignored fans in their relentless and greedy pursuit of money. Football is ours, not theirs. Our football club is ours not theirs."

Chelsea Supporters' Trust called the move "unforgivable" and said its members and "football supporters across the world have experienced the ultimate betrayal".

The Arsenal Supporters' Trust called the club's agreement to join "the death of Arsenal as a sporting institution", while Manchester City's Official Supporters Club said the move showed "those involved have zero regard for the game's traditions", adding it was "determined to fight against this proposed Super League".

The Manchester United Supporters' Trust had earlier said the proposals were "completely unacceptable" and the ESL "goes against everything football, and Manchester United, should stand for".

SSN reported a while ago what we all thought. City would be happy for this to fail but feel compelled to join for fear of losing out.

LIverpool and Man Utd are the English clubs driving this and they moved the goalposts (my interpretation). I don't see why City didn't refuse because I think it fails anyway. So this new super league is essentially full of Europa league level teams that used to be champions league teams
Milan, inter, united, Liverpool, spurs, arsenal etc

If us, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern, Dortmund, liepzig etc stayed out it would be shite anyway

It'#s really not the "death of the club". It's a change in football's structure, like the abolition of maximum wage, formation of the premier league or the champions league. Just to reiterate, I don't want it or like it, but it is not going to change the club's badge, history or location and it is certainly not "the death" of the club. We are already a big franchise, we've changed the club's badge several times and we've even moved location.

Never moved out of the city. In the US where they have structures like this, clubs are just franchises with no link to the area they play. One week they are Boston Braves, next week they are Las Vegas LeBraves.

Ten years time you could see London Red Devils Vs Dublin Sky Blues in the super league.
