I think we shouldn’t even compare pro sports in the USA to Futbol in England or Europe. I played college basketball, and love the sport, but I fucking hate the NBA. I watch very little mlb or nfl also. To me, the only thing comparable to futbol is college athletics. It’s big business and there has been a lot that has destroyed college sports, but it’s the only thing in the USA that fans are equally as passionate about as European futbol. My university, Michigan, has been playing intercollegiate football since 1879 and as bad as we are now, I still am as passionate and fiery about my school as I ever was.
I don’t get that feeling when I watch professional sports, like at all. I started following City 25 years ago as it’s the only sport that I am as into as much as my college team. When it comes to sports, I don’t have a problem with calling the mlb or nba title the world championship, I mean, the best players from all over the world come to the USA to play in the best leagues. NBA is filled with great European players and very diverse. Mlb is filled with players from all over central and South America and Asian countries. Even though the NFL isn’t my favorite, I still love the sport, the strategy, athleticism, and intensity of the game is second to none. With those things being said, I still have a hard time watching it due to the myriad of issues. Games are flooded with commercials, they take way too long, games become meaningless for teams that aren’t in title contention. The parity is a good thing and the playoff system is a good thing.
With all that said, I hate this super league idea, and the fact a team like west ham who is in 4th won’t get rewarded for having a great season really irks me. Taking away the incentive of having a great season is the biggest issue and just the greed. I will agree with all of you in critique when it comes to pro sports and the greedy owners in the USA. We hate people like Stan Kronke as much as you guys do, but I think some of the opinions on the actual sports from you guys is a little extreme. I mean, cricket is a sport and it’s completely unwatchable and talk about boring. Rugby is like American football without the strategy and excitement. We could go on and on with this pissing match.
bottom line is that I hope this super league gets completely destroyed before this gets worse.
Imagine the NCAA basketball tournament where Duke, North Carolina, Michigan, UCLA, Villanova, etc. get an automatic free pass into it no matter how shit their league seasons are.

When I explain what's happening with the ESL to Americans this way, they suddenly grasp why it's so fucked up.

Says the prat who was setting Pep out polls for the first third of the season match by match.

It's about the Chavs, but I can only imagine what our own lads must be feeling. Sold up a shit creek no doubt.

Come on City, do the right thing!

You are missing my point. I don't support the super League but most success needs investment at every level. Leicester didn't do it on their gate money but their Thai owners. Fair play just don't believe they did on altruism. Look at County and Fylde for example.
Got your meaning and take your point but we are comparing a wealthy businessman with a Sovereign Wealth Fund. Apples to Nukes in terms of investment. Success needs investment but I don’t think a club needs to sell its soul for it.

I’m just pretty despondent and given the choice of being a Leicester in the Premiership or a soulless super-club in a meaningless pretend-league whose only purpose is to make the super-rich owners even richer then at the moment I’d choose the first option.

Sorry, I was a bit abrupt. Getting a bit fed up with our own fans turning on the greatest owners we could ever have and second-guessing their strategy without knowing all the facts.
I think our owners are fantastic and we are so lucky we didn't get The Glaziers or someone just as bad. I think if us and Chelsea just signed Friday we had big reservations and IMHO I think it was sold to us either join us or get left behind and stupidly we have. I truly believe we will pull out, maybe Chelsea also, no way will The Glaziers or FSG pull out its their brainchild. I love our owners.

Im increasingly thinking theres something different but huge at play by city that we dont know and perhaps may never know.

Pep said he trusts the club.
He said that pre-CAS and was proved right.

I can’t imagine a world where he goes to the press conference today without having previously had a call from txiki or soriano or khaldoon first. He has earned that and clearly has that relationship with them.

He has then had full authority to say in that conference what he thinks whilst simultaneously saying he trusts the club. So i suspect hes been told, “agreed it looks bad but its not all what it seems and we have this under control, say what you want but dont talk down our owner or execs”.

I genuinely dont think he knows much more than we do. Only time will tell whether hes been used or whether he was right to trust them.

Not sure we know the details yet. Don't they invite 5 teams a year into it? One from each good league I would guess so the Likes of Leicester would still get in based on where they are now. West Ham/Everton/Leeds could be in UEFA CL? How does this destroy football?
What I or you think is irrelevant.
If the rest of football and the government think it will destroy football, which they do.
Do you think the government couldn’t stop it?

What if that coincides with the premier league?
No work permits, no police, then what?

If an ESL match coincides with a PL match then City field a second string for the PL match which triggers the wrath of broadcasters who are paying billions for PL rights and not a City B team.

Playing silly buggers will get UEFA, PL, et al precisely no where.

MCFC Belongs to Manchester and English football not to a football cartel of NFL based here today gone tomorrow nomads. Come on City we stood by the club through some dark times , now listen to us and do right by us . Dump this nonsense and return to the best league in the world .

We stood by the club when those cunts in the big 5 sent a letter to have City destroyed. So naturally the club ditches us and jumps into their cartel at the first opportunity. So much for the club of the people.

The only way to salvage any good will here is for City to walk away, but the window to do so is closing fast.
