Email from our CEO

its a good startShould be his resignation letter.

I don’t understand how they didn’t know the impact this would have. They clearly don’t employ anyone higher up that’s a city fan or normal football fan

I’d like to hear from our owner or khaldoon

Perhaps winning tonight helps my feel good factor. Didn’t want us to be in that awful comp and surprised our owners couldn’t see the fans response. But though we didn’t have to join in I think it was those America owned clubs who pushed this and we didn’t want to get left behind. The club have apologised and I think it’s enough.

didn’t want to get left behind? It’s such a pathetic excuse. We had a choice. We weren’t held at gun point. If it was that crucial we had to join. Why did we so quickly back out of it 24 hours later.

we had a choice and chose greed. Next proposal like this. The club will just say we didn’t want to get left behind.... how about do the right thing in the first place ?

our own manager, players and fans were against it. Doesn’t take a genius to work out how bad this idea was

get this thread binned, we win tonight and are so close to the title and this is above the post match thread,,,,,put it to bed blues FFS

Not saying I agree with what we did. Sadly modern professional football is largely built on greed. Our owners have done great things to our club but they are businessmen. I don’t think they built the club to not to involved in footballs biggest club competition. As wretched as that comp is.

Apparently we’re getting an interview from the chairman at some point this week

It's a reasonable effort.

It does apologise.

Not sure what folk expect. Does anyone really think the takeover was driven by boyhood dreams of standing in the Kippax or something?

They're in it for the money, and somewhat for the image of Abu Dhabi aka sportswashing. They run the club incredibly professionally compared to any other in the entire world.

Here, they fucked up. Massively. They obviously decided this ESL would fly, so they had no alternative but to back it. It never seemed that they were driving it or liked it, just that they decided it was inevitable.

Hopefully they've learned a lesson: in the end you can't make money long term by breaking the principles of your business, even if it looks attractive.

Yes they did, they could have rejected it.............

He has always been distant from our local fans , too busy trying to sign up plastics from abroad, well he has been punished , having to take the can for it
He’s now been removed from our Strategic Advisory Group. Definitely a huge cock up and not some masterplan like some are claiming.

Also, "I want to personally assure you". They are suggesting he 'wants' to personally assure us. Surely, it should be "I personally assure you... ".
Saying he 'wants' to do it is a more personal touch that makes it seem like his heart is in the right place. Without it, it comes across as rather robotic and authoritative. The former is more submissive and the latter is indifferent and dominant.

Normally with an apology you want to be submissive. It's a way of saying, 'I'm sorry, and I'll let you be the controlling party in how you feel about this thing and react to the apology, given I was the one who screwed up.' Being more dominant in an apology is almost demanding forgiveness.

When he was giving the interview about FFP, that's when you don't want him using the word 'want'.
