State of Carragher

Completely missing first half when we needed him to get his foot on it and shackle neymar. Second half he did improve considerably but he wasn't asked those same questions defensively thanks to a brilliant team performance, him included, that starved them of the ball in areas he operates giving him an easy ride. only really had to worry about his passing second half and that was uncharacteristically off numerous times.

Should have had an assist after some good work, did everything right but nobody got on the end of his ball for the tap in it deserved.

We saw the best and worst of him last night, but he never hides and, like every other player on the pitch,he contributed hugely to the result.
The experience of being up against two of the fastest, snidiest, and trickiest players in world football cannot have failed to have done him wonders.

He's just simply not good enough. He's a decent player but for 60M he should be WAY better than decent.

Mr composure , covers a lot of ground , intelligent passer ,a rock in our midfield

He’s a wok horse but just needs to cut out silly passes & holding the ball too long. He’s young & will only get better. Always a 7/10 performance player

Their one chance in the first half (the one two down the right wing) - who was there to cut the cross out? Rodri.

Does it a lot more than people give him credit for and his passing, composure and resistance to being pressed (mostly) make him an all round brilliant player.

I don’t see how fans can slate a guy who’s been a mainstay in a team - in one of the most important positions - which is having such a brilliant season. It’s not luck and like he’s being carried. He’s vital.

Some experts said Arkle was only a work horse, how good a career he had .

He's so so good. I'm always a big skeptical of the "Selling club was furious they lost said player", but I understand completely why Atletico were so pissed off to lose him. Perfect player for the system, perfect player for his position.

Bought him at the perfect time too, these 2 seasons learning from ferna have been invaluable. Best in the league in his position this year and I'm excited to see him to continually improve.

Still think he's our weakest outfield position besides the lack of a number 9 to be honest.

He's much improved from where he was last year but he still has a tendency to be caught out of position, lose his man or get done one v one. He's a frustrating player. I think he gets exposed now and then out of possession and especially in the transitions, it's one of our biggest weaknesses when we lose possession IMO. He's solid enough when we're flat track bullying but will often get exposed when it heats up.

We do miss a lot of Fernandinho's front foot aggression in that holding role, his athleticism, eye for danger and quality on the ball. But then again we were spoilt with Fernandinho, probably the best in that position in PL history. Huge boots to fill.
