Paris Saint-Germain (H) - CL SF | Post-Match Thread

Agree. I would be gutted to lose Laporte, simply because there is no real drop in quality in rotation.

The emergence of Foden and Mahrez, coupled with Bernie, would suggest Sterling and Jesus would have the most to think about, certainly if people like Haaland and Grealish could come in as replacements?
Yes, Laporte would be a big loss. I'd assume Pep will tell him one bad injury or loss of form and he plays every week. I sense he's a stubborn character though and he'll be badly hurt missing out on the game of his life. If Sterling missses the game and has a poor Euros he might reevaluate and to be honest if we can get £100m+ I could live with it. Jesus needs to decide whether he's happy as a number 2 striker. At his age I'm not sure he will be.

Well said, as a kid the 70s and 80s was a nightmare, the constant piss taking from rags and scousers, but I always knew we would have our day.

Those difficult times make this even more special, seeing the hurts of the rags and scousers is today a pleasure ,a wonderful pleasure, and I really hope they are hurting.
I totally agree Keeper..it was so hard as a City fan..truthfully I never expected this to happen..just remember the day when the Sheikh took over..Robinho bought, nearly bought Berbaflopp..the forum seems to have many people from that era..it was an amazing day. We old boys have to accept that the younger fans havent experienced the lows, and maybe feel matters differently to ourselves..have said this before, the Stoke final laid many ghosts to rest for me..everything else has been a massive bonus. All I can say to the younger fans is hope,do not expect. We are City, not rags or scousers.

Totally agree, the Swales era was hard, often heartbreaking but it was character building at it's finest.

I would not swop any of it , we support a wonderful football club with a rich heritage, it's a honour to be part of this club and to be part of the last 12 years is mind blowing!

Just watched the full replay up to Mahrez's second goal, and I've come to the conclusion that PSG suffered from a team of too many players who are used to getting every fuckin' call from the ref, and when the Dutch whistling wallah didn't give it, they resorted to the usual mode - the LotG into their own hands, but Baby Bjorn wasn't having any. Two major culprits - Herrera thinks he's God's gift to football, and the serial cheat, Diarrhoea's partner in crime, Dimmer-roea! I think there's a common denominator with those two - just can't put my finger on it at the moment. But a couple of gobshites, nonetheless.

I tried to watch it, but soon as he started talking I had to turn it off.
The whining blind french ****.
Wenger losing relevance with every sentence, His Invincibles team were quite adept at the darker arts, in fact some of Patrick V and Petits tackles were terrible - you leave our skipper alone, off you pop for a nice glass of vino and a bouillabaisse you muppet.

World class performance that was, feel like football hasn’t been played that well since Pep’s Barca team against united in the Champions League final. ISTANBUL ISTANBUL WE ARE COMING!

What a game, kept one of the most dangerous teams in europe quiet for two games and ended the tie 4-1 on agg, superb. Every single player earned a place in the final, all heroes, and if we play like that it doesnt matter who we face.

Am sure psg thought it was their trophy this year, but we showed them what their limits are and broke them, both on the pitch and mentally too, there were some crazy stats about their away form beforehand and I was a little worried, but fcking hell.

Its no wonder that Pep wants our enemies to "fight us on the pitch" because with performances and never say die attitude like that we would be extremely difficult to stop.

Its like in a season where every body else has lost their heads........... we have kept ours.

It was MK’s remix that made this shitty song into best remix ever . Period !
Think we have to tap into the players love of this song (maybe not the dance!) keep it simple and it has a chance of being a good anthem for our boys in this seasons CL final, a way of uniting players & fans, we’ve had too many to mention over the years & some absolute crackers with the Yaya/Kolo taking over most dance floors in the country, something along the lines of:-

It’s a final again
Mahrez De Bruyne, goal!
It’s a final again
Ruben John Stones, block!
It’s a final again
Phil Foden Sterling, goal!
It’s a final again
Zinchenko Walker block!
It’s a final again
(replace final with title for this weekend)

I’ll get me coat........

I dont think Jesus or Sterling will be that worried.

I still remember when Mahrez was going to force Sterling out in 2018 and Sterling has instead become the teams biggest goalscorer since Mahrez arrived.

We are having a wonderful season and could make the big breakthrough in the CL, but don't be tricked into thinking this is it from now on, this is the XI and the system for the forseeable.

We're likely going to buy a massive name striker, and that means we're going to change the system again back towards something more 2017-2019ish. Haaland or whoever isn't just going to slot into this system and play Bernardo's role.

Sterling and Jesus will probably benefit from that, and some other players will struggle with it, like those 2 have struggled in the strikerless system.

To a man we were brilliant, but immediately after the whistle was blown, I said Zinchenko was my MoTM. What an attitude! What a player he's becoming!

He came to us as a very promising youngster, but ultimately didn't quite hit the grade we were looking for. It was odds on from the beginning we'd sell or loan him out, but I recall an interview he gave saying he had self belief, a willingness to learn & improve, & the patience to wait for an opportunity to prove himself. He also said City was the only club he wanted to be at, & how determined he was to remain here.

I recall when he first played in place of an injured Mendy. He was OK, but City still needed a quality LB as back up for Mendy, not a makeshift young midfielder. He was a reasonable option in the main, but also a bit hit & miss with his performances & not the long term answer for our problem LB position. He'd be having a brilliant match, but a couple of serious lapses later he'd have our defence on the ropes. His lack of pace is also a major concern too.

However, the kid has stuck it out. He turned down an £18m move to Wolves, with a better chance of regular first team football for himself. He did this to follow through on his pledge to improve himself as a player, & to prove himself good enough to nail down a permanent squad position on merit.

He arrived here as an attacking, creative midfielder, but was seen more of a general CM baller. This issue for Zincheko's career is that City had many more better players than him in his preferred CM position. However, when the opportunity arose to take advantage & become our preferred ball playing LB, he's grabbed it with both hands.

I suppose a question mark will always remain that City need two dedicated, world class LB's to reflect our options on the right, not a converted midfielder, & an often injured LB who hasn't lived up to expectations. But Zinchenko keeps answering that question by slowly & steadily improving into a genuine LB option for us.

Perhaps that question mark can be the best thing all round for Zinchenko & City! It will keep him on his toes, always with something to prove & a position to protect. If I could bottle & sell a football players attitude, it would be Zinchenko's. He's an inspiration to all young aspiring footballers the world over. Never give up on your dreams, & have the fortitude & belief to keep fighting to achieve them.

He's hopefully got another 90+ minutes in him to make Manchester City history. Here's hoping Zinchenko can be a major part of that history..... :-)
Zinc didn’t look particularly slow, when he took Eddie’s pass to set up the first goal.

He flew down the wing and made a great pass to Kevin.

I thought he had a great game and that block showed how much it meant to him, as did his tears at the final whistle.

Mrs Vienna loves Zinc; he was her MotM.
