Rodri made a bad mistake (if it wasn't a foul against him), but he was the only proper midfielder in that formation. We played with 6 midfielders vs PSG and with only one vs Chelsea, in order to allow Aguero to leave on a high and beat Rooney's record.

If Pep deserves some criticisms, it is not that he played a lot of squad players, but that the formation made it extremely difficult for them to perform well and now all those players will be slated due to the strange formation and Sergio's miss.
No sentiment in football, get it won then Pep can give Serg his lap of honour.

Exposed again without the correct players helping him out. Pep knows he needs runners so I am not sure why he decided to play him on his own against an experienced fast midfield. Overall he did ok but his mistake cost us just like Jesus before. We had no outlet and Chelsea hounded us on the ball. Pep should have changed the situation sooner.

All this "he was on his own" talk is guff. Chelsea wasn't far off mirroring us, they had gilmour in with Kante and one less forward that was about the only difference. Between jesus and sterling, they dropped back enough to negate gilmour's minimal influence which basically left the midfield area to a Straight up 1v1 vs Kante. Kante is infinitely more mobile and schooled him.

Who said he was a patch on dinho, if rodri had his usual support he doesn't get robbed
Rodri had a good 4-5 seconds, many touches and numerous options to pass to, he didn't get crowded out with no options he dawdled on the ball unnecessarily and fucked up of his own making. nothing to do with the formation.

I think even ferna would’ve struggled today given that role today.

Hung out to dry by pep. He gets caught in possession a lot but he didn’t have the support today.

The dawdling cost him. He rarely makes runs like that. I’m not sure why he did it. That goal was his fault primarily. It doesn’t matter what you do for the rest of the game. You can’t make errors like that at this level against good sides as you get punished.

So do you think if he had another midfielder - Gundogan, Bernardo, Foden- alongside it wouldn't have made a difference ?
Also Chelsea have been playing this formation since Tuchel arrived ? They are not designed to win by dominating possession like we are, which needs midfielders, we had at least one too few today.

Except that mistake - which lead to the Chelsea`s first goal - I think he was our best player
on the pitch - considering how easily he coped with their midfield and fast players.

And such mistakes can happen to everyone. Bernardo made even worst mistake against PSG when Dimaria easily could have scored and etc. and etc.

So Mr Stable is world class and otherwise - we wouldn't be there, where we are now.

But in the final Pep will definitely pick Fernandinho, because we need his leadership and experience and balls to cope with the pressure, especially after two straight losses..

Rodri is class - but he's not a destroyer. He's more of a metronome - able to sit in and pick passes - controlling the game.

I think - though - that we need a destroyer to compliment Rodri. Fernandinho is the sole player we have that fits this mould - I expect that we'll sign a box-to-box defensive mid next window to fill this role.

Rodri makes plenty of challenges,he isnt shy of getting stuck in and breaking up play.To say he isnt a destroyer simply isnt true.
