Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

Well, as I usually do, I slept on that before commenting on here. And, not as I usually do, I still feel the same way.

That was a shitshow. Complete with the most incompetent ref/VAR combo I've seen in a long time. The officiating in this league is at rock-bottom.....and I've never really subscribed to the 'bent' viewpoint, it's more just 'fucking useless/clueless' for me......but after that showing you seriously start to wonder. I'm dreading to think what surprises Senor Lahoz has up his sleeve for us.

Hope Gundogan is OK. Foden was excellent. Rodri worries me at the minute. Garcia was Garcia.

Game consigned to the dustbin....move on.
All good comment.

Bissouma...for us he is virtually irreplaceable. He has come on in leaps and bounds over the past 2 seasons - sure, his shooting is a huge weakness and he should be scoring more goals rather than threatening the back row of the stand - but imo he would walk into any midfield in the league and Europe - I do believe he is THAT good. defintiely has room for improvement, but if we hang onto him for another season I will be amazed.
Cheers, its how i see him too.

Very talented and deserving of a higher level.

The Jesus pen is so nailed on that when it went to VAR I wasn’t thinking whether it was gonna be awarded I was thinking who will take it and will we score

I was speechless when they said check over no penalty
Me too... I was thinking exactly that. Mahrez or Foden?

After reading all the comments. I have to say A good few of you came across as self entitled and extremely patronising. You can’t win them all, that’s football. Congratulations on being champions and good luck in your champions league final against Chelsea.

Welcome to bluemoon....

I enjoyed that moment in the 88th minute when we got a free kick on the half way line (yes, we did get at least one, if nowt else) and Fernandinho kept throwing the ball forward to gain ten yard and the Brighton player kept throwing it back again. It happened three or four times, made me laugh.

Has anyone figured out yet why Bernardo was flaged for a foul or offside from our throw in? Its still an unsolved mystery to me.
Yesterday I wasnt sure about some of the decisions, but the more I see them, the more ridiculous they where. Cancelo was a 50/50 tussle, locked in arms, he even got his head to the ball.
It was a nasty challange on Gundogan that wasnt dissimilar to Stones in the Villa game.
And a definate pen on Jesus, guy went flying in, two footed over the ball.
Genuinely think the ref and VAR had forgotten how to ref a match in front of a home crowd, and shat their pants.

We like brighton , they are my nearest team , we respected potter and the way you play , thought we were on for a decent game, respect in our team selection, you went all shithouse , we expect that from certain teams but not you , we have a big game next week and your lot tried several times to injure gundy in particular and phil

Politely fuck off

Yes forgot about that, it was like WE were the ones defenfing a lead, not desperate for a goal.

two of the worst VAR decisions all season happened last night

The Cavani goal
The Jesus (non) penalty

They both happened in dead rubbers, for the home team, in front of the first home only crowds for a year

Coincidence??

I'll be watching to see what happens in the remaining dead rubber games tonight and at the weekend and if the trend continues I'll be expecting us to be benefit of dodgy decisions on Sunday

The kick out from the guy who nearly connects with Dias's face should have been a red card as well. You name it, they missed it.

Think you've got a point about the influence of the crowd on the officials. None of our players really appealed the penalty as I think they were pretty resigned to the stitch up by then. When VAR finally took a lot of it, a lot of time had elapsed and they knew there would have been a riot if they'd brought play back to give a penalty. Even though it would have been the correct decision.

I was surprised Jesus didn’t appeal, nor anyone else at the time, so ref did nothing, but when it went to VAR I thought it would be a pen, he rolled his foot over the ball into Jesus ‘s leg( not sure if that constitutes getting the ball) and took him out. Not sure of rules on that one but feel the players should have made more of it to make ref make a judgement
This has probably already been mentioned but if they players feel they're being diddled out of a game they're less likely to appeal believing it'll come to nothing.

Moss doesn't know the rules. This is the guy who, pre-VAR, was caught on a video recording (Spurs V Liverpool) asking the lino 'have the telly guys said anything ?' (or words to that effect) re a possible pen. He guessed and gave the pen for Spurs. That's all you need to know - tells you everything.
And what I never understood about that was ‘how’ would the linesman know if the tele guys have said anything... unless?

One benefited united , one shat on City (again)
