To play devils advocate you could easily say to Messi no one can afford to pay your ridiculous wage demands in the midst of a pandemic and still have resources left to sign other top players and compete for major trophies.

Messi can’t be paid his absolutely mammoth contract (assuming his contract leaks where accurate) and still expect to be at a club signing other top players especially in this current climate. It doesn’t work financially for any club if he really wants to win than surely lowering his salary would help to do this? See Tom Brady in the nfl he has always taken a lower salary then his worth to ensure the side can sign other great players around him so he can win. How much money do you actually need?

He’s on a free, though. Say his wages cost us £50m per year - expensive yes but without a transfer fee that’s more than attainable.

I'm starting to think out of Haaland, Kane and Messi, Messi might be the most straight forward deal. I believe he wants to win trophies and if they can't add a big name player this summer he surely has to move somewhere

Maybe it is for us now but to what detriment in the long term? I can see other players becoming unhappy if he starts sulking and walking when it gets tough not to mention him being the top earner etc. It’s a slippery slope I’m not sure it’s worth the risk for what 2 years maximum? He thinks he is bigger than Barcelona so god knows what he would be like here if he wasn’t getting his way.

We have a very close knit squad Kane wouldn’t change that, the same can’t be said for Messi imo.

Flick just took the Germany job a few weeks ago. Any links to Barca are just probably nonsense leaks from Laporta to appease the fans, just like their “attempt” to sign Haaland.

Yes but why can’t they add big names? Largely because of his absolutely ridiculous wage demands. You can’t have your cake and eat it something has to give in this climate. As I say this is just me playing Devils advocate but I do think it is a legitimate point

With ffp and with no guarantee when crowds are back to full capacity you would have to assume so. Not to mention squad space. Sign Messi we will play false 9 or sign Kane he will be the striker. That’s my opinion anyways
