I see the UKs first cruise ship set off yesterday..first in 12 months. Jane McDonald was first on board;)

that’s where you are struggling to understand posts.

I am not for one minute suggesting we have a a lockdown for flu .

I am making the point that we have done such a great job controlling Covid (finally) with lockdowns and vaccinations that deaths are nearly half of flu.

therefore highlighting the stupidity of continuing lockdowns for Covid when deaths are half that of flu .

we would not even consider a lockdown for flu deaths so why then are some arguing we delay the release of Covid restrictions when the deaths are half of flu Deaths as a comparator And over half the adult population vaccinated and greater confidence that the vaccines work against the current variants .

get it.
It might just be due to being a bit cautious after 127000 deaths in a period where flu numbers are a tenth of that.

I bet it won’t be green this year.
I’ll take that bet. Balearics and Canaries will be at next review as they would already be if it was about the data rather than the ability of the airports and border control to cope with the additional checks now in place.

I suppose an argument could be over that period we didn't have a vaccine programme that has been rolled out and offered to all of those classed as vulnerable. I don't know what proportion of those deaths belong to the vulnerable group, but i reckon it's fairly substantial.

The Friday ONS data report on the prevalence of the virus in the 4 nations shows why Wales is doing so well.

1 in 4340 estimated positive there - improvement on last week I in 4230

Scotland improved even more though - from 1 in 1250 last week to 1 in 1960 today. Cases have been going up here so hopefully that will show in coming data.

Northern Ireland also improved from 1 in `1430 to i in 1550.

England - however - and we know how and where and why - is the only one going the other way.

Last week was 1 in 1340 - this week 1 in 1110

Clearly the worst.

Scotland data:

Nicola Sturgeon announces R rate seems back over 1

0 deaths - was 2 last week

414 cases - was 215 last week

212 Greater Glasgow, 62 Lanarkshire, 48 Lothian

1.9% positivity - was 1.3% last week.

Murray has seen a big fall in cases and positivity, Does not have the same level of the new variant there seems why.

Glasgow IS being driven by the same variant as Bolton and still rising.

81 in hospital - down 2 on yesterday - was 64 last week

4 ventilator icu - down 1 on yesterday - was 3 last week

A bit better news here though the cases and R number less so,

Without passing comment on the BBC thing....Harry sometimes I drank a whole recommended week of booze in one day...meh.
That reminded me, off many years ago. I was at the doctors, no idea why now, and it was new lady doctor. Half way through our conversation, she looked at me and said do you still drink alot. With a quizzical look on my face i said no i have never drank alot. She looked at my notes and said. Oh right its just that it says here you drink up tp 15 pints a week. Wishing that was all i drank, i just said yeah ok i still drink too much.

They had a live link from it on TV this morning. It is only about a third full. They are only going to UK destinations. Cannot even land in France. That travel guru guy - Simon Calder - who is on everything was aboard and said they are barely travelling 20 miles in a day. And blowing a gale!

Well Id guess after the nightmare of the last 14months..it might feel bloody great..I hope everyone on board enjoys it

Sadly my fears about Bury becoming the new Bolton turned out to be ahead of the curve again. Frustrating that this keeps happening. Hope to goodness at least someone will take Zoe seriously now they have detected it too.

Zoe today shows both it and Bolton now the two red zone areas in the North West.

A full report shortly.
