Some of Jack Grealish's underlying stats are very impressive:

PL Only
Joint best (with KDB) Goal Creating Actions/90.
Joint most (with Traoré) Progressive Carries.
Most Carries into Penalty Area.
Most Fouls Drawn.
2nd most Shot Creating Actions/90.
Joint 2nd best (with Kane) Assists/90.
2nd best xA/90.
3rd most Key Passes.
5th most Carries into Final Third.
6th most passes into area.
6th best Progressive Carrying Distance (1st of midfielders).

Would signing Grealish massively improve City's strongest XI? That's debateable. He'd need to be a cut above the already high quality players we have in midfield to really have that level of impact.

Is he a top player though? I think that's less debateable. Whether he stays at Villa, comes to City, or goes elsewhere, it's very likely that he'll be playing at a very high level.

If a striker comes, there is no more space in the squad. For anyone, in any posotion, of any age or nationality. It is that simple, one in, one out, while we are in the CL and build a squad for all competitions. Garcia leaving makes no difference, he never counted anyway, as a club trained/academy player. Sergio makes no difference, if he is replaced by a striker. Carson frees up a space, but only if replaced by a club trained keeper.

Imo, we Did replace David Silva.

With Foden.
I wasn't 100% sure on the squad rules so if that's the case fair enough.

What I was suggesting though is I don't think Pep would be afraid to add to his midfield options if he had the chance. We lost Silva and didn't replace externally is maybe what I should've said. Foden was obviously replaced from within but he was already with us in the 19/20 season and has been used more in the front three this season, so I've no doubt Pep would be happy to add another option in there if the right player came up. He also loves players who can play on different positions, so Grealish fits that bill.

Who knows what the ins and outs will be. Pep has hinted that players want to leave so we may see a surprise or two in the outgoings which will give us the space and funds that we need.

I think it's incredibly unlikely that Sterling leaves this summer. But even if he did, I think it's also unlikely that we would replace him with Grealish.

They are nothing alike. Sterling has electric pace and makes quality runs in behind. Grealish excels at coming short and wants the ball to feet. Grealish is a great creator from wide areas. Sterling's job is predominantly to stretch the play and get on the end of deliveries from his teammates.

If Grealish were to replace anyone in our squad, it would be Mahrez, or possibly Bernardo. But I can't see either leaving this summer.

If we needed to replace Sterling, I'm certain we'd be looking at someone with similar attributes - a Pedro Neto, or maybe even a Bukayo Saka.

Particularly if Kane/another conventional striker arrives.

Grealish transfer is similar to mahrez. We did not necessarily need to spend the money at the time. We had Sane & Sterling and needed a CB. Mahrez has been hit and miss until this season. If we win the champions league his transfer will be more than justified. Forward planning and will keep the squad strong. He might not be needed right now but 12-18 months from now having digested peps philosophy I can see why the club want to make a move now.

Kane and Grealish together is a minimum of 200m, no way will we pay that much out.

Someone is leaving and for big money.
Could well be nearer to £160/170mil, we’ve already cleared about £50mil by the time all the loanee deals are finalised and paid up, plus the Leroy money. Easy peasy.

I am surprised that so many people are sceptical about signing another midfielder. In our current false 9 system we’re effectively playing all our creative midfielders at once. We can alternate Rodri and Fernandinho but after that we play 2 of Bernardo, Gundogan, KDB and Foden as 8s, one of those 4 play false 9 and Foden often plays wide. It’s meant that our midfielders have often had least rest. That’s also assuming we can keep them all fit.

Even if we sign a forward we should have space for another midfielder.
