Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

I’ve always been positive as I’m sure you’ll admit, sometimes some of you haven’t liked me for it I’m sure :-) but this morning I’m beginning to feel the loss! As I always say, the lads don’t go onto the football pitch to play badly, everyone has bad days at work. Yesterday, much as it pains me to criticise Pep, I’m not sure he gave them the right vibes. He is so desperate to do well for us all that, as many have said, he overthought it.
I’m feeling worse now than I did at the end of the game last night! Then all I could see was Aguero’s tears, Baby Kev’s tears, the despair/disappointment on the faces of John Boy, KDB et al and I felt for them. Today I’m the one who needs cheering up!
I keep saying to myself, there’s always next year, but it’s not helping!

I guess preparing to renew my season card will ease the pain a little but even that’s a concern. Will I be allowed to stay in my seat or will social distancing put the kybosh on it. Ah well worse things happen at sea as my old Dad used to say!
Sorry.
Accepted the defeat after the game, I’m feeling both angry and very disappointed this morning. We had a long time to get ready for this game, it’s one we should have won on the basis of our league position, our players and teams we beat to get to the final.

We blew it and not sure when we’ll be in another.

Worst of all to was see terrorist boy Roman with his hands in the trophy smiling. Gutted.

It is exactly why we must strengthen again this summer.

The club needs a big boost very quickly and don't want this defeat hanging over us all summer like Lyon.

Momentum. Chelsea have it right now, but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.

Exactly, the false 9 system was forced on Pep this season with him not having a fit Aguero to call on. He has had to make do and has managed to guide City to another title, Once he gets the players he wants this window I think we will see an evolution of this current team.

I remember Jordan Henderson getting interviewed on the pitch after Madrid smashed them and he said " we will have to go 1 better next season" and they did.
But with us we don't get the luxury of UEFA wanting us to win it.
Not sure when our time will come.
That's why when we got the chance we should of murdered it

The one excuse I will give Pep is that all season City have vacillated between 4-3-3 and a false 9. Pep has been managing the game on the hoof all season.

Before this game, there were two bodies of opinion in regards to City. Do we get a specialist centre-forward and play like we used to, or do we try and revolutionise football and make a virtue out of the false 9.

There really wasn't a definite City blueprint. We all expected City to play the false 9 but it wasn't 100% certain. In the end Pep went for surprise. What I am saying is that he started with doubt because we have been changing all season. Maybe this is not a big a leap as we think.
The 'surprise' factor for us, is far more risk than it's worth - as we are such a finely tuned machine.
Like with formula one cars, drive them the way you are supposed to drive them and you are the fastest thing around. Mess around with the fundamentals too much and you quickly go off the road.

The more I think about it the more pissed off I will get. So I'm moving on quickly. It was so simple and obvious. But we did what we did and that's that. Whoever fucks up, we need to maintain that unity of 'all for one...etc' - and I think that however he shows it, or not, Pepe will own it - remember the Sterling open net miss in All or Nothing?

I’d love us to get Jack Grealish, just to reinvigorate the midfield, it’s all on KDB at the moment and deep lying teams have worked us out abit.

Sad to think that that was the last game some of these players will play for us.

We know Aguero and Garcia are going but I suspect we will see at least one more on top of that.

Time will tell but fear there may be a surprise in there we are not expecting.

It will hang over us for decades mate.

Yes because by having a Dm on would have allowed our top scorer to player further up the field and do what he does which is score goals . Also it would have stopped Kante running and tearing though our midfield at will putting pressure on our defence which he did all night . Also it would have put foden back on that wing were he has been most effective in this run . That one decision has had mob adduce ramifications on the squad and how they thought they were going to line up .
Was quietly confident all week met up at the pub saw the team and said to my mate we've blown it .
If a thick fucker like me can see it the team must have seen ( so on the back foot before kick-off ) why the fuck didn't pep I just dont get it.......I am not an outer

It sounds like a mad idea but does someone higher up in the club need to veto his team selections for the biggest games? I’m still scratching my head about the line up. it makes no sense ....

Get with the program fella just say in Pep we trust and mention any random lower tier club we played when we were shit, then move on:-)
I trust pep to the hilt but I don’t trust him to win the champions league with us but as I’ve stated before I’d rather win the league.

Gutted.

Thought Pep got it wrong selecting Sterling and not starting Fernandinho, abandoning the team that got us there in the 1st place, but the overall performance just wasn't good enough. We didn't ask enough questions and defensively we looked vulnerable at times to the counter.

KDB going off summed up the night for us.

It's been a really good season, but a missed opportunity this one. Fair play to Chelsea, they did a job on us and we had no answers sadly.

having thought about it a bit more, I agree, the team selection was strange and had an impact but would starting Fernandinho have made a big difference? I think you have to give credit to Chelsea, the tactics and their players performances.

Standout players for Chelsea:

Reece had Sterling in his pocket all night
Chilwell was all over Mahrez like glue
Kante played like a man possessed

their midfield pretty much man marked KDB and Foden out of the game.

Even if Fernandinho or Rodri would have started Chelsea would still have stuck to their game plan of killing out attacking play
and If we don’t have an attacking threat we look vulnerable.

Im not so sure one player would have made a huge difference last night.
The past is the past, but Guardiola should figure out that and maybe change the tactics. Put Fernandinho remove sterling or Mahrez who struggled against their opponent.
I mean play the team that beaten PSG, football at this level is about details and luck.

One player doesn't change, but when you feel that gundogan was wasted.

Many people before the game were claming, he is going to overthink, i am sure many saw the line up and tought about Monaco Lyon etc
