many were but it was a lot of money for a player from that league.

Don't forget he, Ferm, had to buy himself out of it, says a lot about the man.

He backed his talent, and he and us have been rewarded handsomely.
Fair play to him on that and he is a fan favourite because of his attitude but there are more talented players than Fernandinho.

He's a fan favourite because of his attitude. He's a manager's favourite because he's often the smartest guy on the pitch. He's a player's favourite because he covers their arses better than anyone. He's a highly decorated professional because he's a fucking good footballer.

Technically better yes but Fernandinho for what he does and brings to this team he's world class.

I don't like throwing that word around alot cos people use it too much.

I love going back to the start of these type of threads. This thread started with us being linked to him on a free because his contract was due up now we’re talking a club record fee.

The Grealish/Sterling debate was a thing then too - in 2014.

For me It's now or never for Grealish to come to God's own club. Pep is the one manager who will handle his off the pitch persona best and if he came you would see him not only improve on the pitch but off it too. At 26 he's got plenty of PL experience behind him and must be looking at going to a club that plays in the CL every season, if he came he would go to another level. He deserves credit for sticking with his boyhood club when it would have been easy to jump ship when they struggled, but now is the perfect time to come to us.

As for fitting in on the pitch I can't see any problems, there is no doubt he has the ability but he also has the unexpected in his locker, a bit of a maverick something we missed on Saturday. The more I look at it I believe he would be a great addition and I really hope we sign him. Foden, Torres & Grealish would be mouthwatering.

Not sure what you’ve been reading but from all that I’ve seen his off the pitch persona doesn’t need ‘handling’.
He’s loved and respected by everyone he works with and everyone who knows him.
Nobody has the slightest issue with his attitude or application in either his personal or professional life.

The media trail him like a bad smell, so anything he ever does wrong makes headlines, but there are very few headlines.
Certainly less that I’d have produced if the media had been trailing me at his age.
Ok so he saw a mate during lockdown and bent his motor - well that’s not so clever but it’s very much the MO of guys his - not any more ‘crazy’ than others of ours have got up to down the years so I don’t know why it gets repeated negative regurgitation.

Top class is stretching it but he can be effective. If he was top class he wouldn't be still at Villa. Same if Foden was on their books
A lot of players don’t hit that top level till later in there careers, kante and van dijk two very fine examples, they didn’t have there breakout premier league seasons until past 25.

looking closer to home the same goes for mahrez and even dinho - he was still playing in Ukraine until he was 28!

the whole notion that certain players aren’t any good as they’ve not had a big move before a certain age despite there obvious quality is ridiculous.
