Coronavirus (2021) thread

Well it was slightly tongue in cheek although I don’t trust these despots one bit so won’t be giving them the benefit of the doubt. Kate Bingham’s vaccine success doesn’t change the fact we still have the same bunch of twats in charge that have screwed everything else up so badly. But that’s not for this thread so I’ll leave it there.
This government might be a lot of things - many of them not very flattering IMO - but it puzzles me why anyone refers to them as despots. They're as far removed from despots as you can get for me and their lack of a backbone throughout this pandemic has enabled the fuckwits to do what they want and ride roughshod over all those people who have tried to do the right thing. I'm far from an advocate of draconian measures but personally I'd have got the fucking water cannon out on the anti-lockdown dickheads long ago. They can moan and skrike about human rights but most of the fuckers involved in those protests didn't give 2 shits about human rights before this pandemic hit. Most of them are only complaining because they've been stopped from doing all the things they want to do. Well join the fucking club and cry me a fucking a river you bunch of selfish cunts!

Didn't they send covid infected care home residents back into care homes resulting in 1000s and 1000s of deaths? They are vermin.

Hmm it’s actually extremely convenient timing…just in time to justify a delay to 21st and another U-turn. They must have used up all their variant quota a la winter lockdown!

FWIW I don’t have a massive problem with a short delay but it’s laughable how they manipulate people and wheel these things out that ‘aren’t their fault’ at such opportune moments.
A delay to opening up wouldn't be a u-turn though. It was a guide that's all, not a rubber stamped date.

Government have u turned again, I understand the need to be cautious but they can expect some hostile resistance from some sectors and it still makes little sense when millions have been double vaccinated and deaths are very low.
The issue is that constant moving of the goalposts.

its not a u turn, the dates were never, ever, set in stone.

Nothing to tell, it was never set in stone. the wording has been very clear since the roadmap was announced.
Yes I know but this delay is a disaster for that sector, millions will lose their jobs and more premises shut down.

Bollocks will they. at most Millions will be on furlough for a few more weeks. and yes, some business may close but the numbers will be smaller than you think, if they managed to survive this long a few more weeks wont kill most of those businesses. Granted some may have had a big push to get ready so maybe more impacted but hopefully for most there stock increases etc will hold over for a few weeks.

but the dates were never set in stone. its its been crystal clear they have never been set in stone.

for references. there are 2.6m people unemployed right now. there wont me "Millions" more.

what about the theatres, night clubs etc, some have sold tickets from the 21st. Some are threatening legal action now.
Sooner or later surely they have to take the hand break off, otherwise what was the point in the vaccines? or are they not telling us something?

Why does your wedding come at such a large cost? The first cancellation might have been unavoidable, the 2nd and 3rd were /are pretty predictable, all things considered. Book a church/ civil ceremony, say your vows, get hitched then, celebrate with friends and family at a time when we/ you can be certain you’re not left footing a huge cancellation bill.
To be honest we've been proactive with everything where we can and we are lucky that all our suppliers are understanding and helpful. This date was booked in Autumn last year.

If these restrictions aren't eased on weddings we have two choices:

1 - rearrange to a new date, which means we have to deal with suppliers who might not have availability (so we lose deposits) and putting our lives on hold even further (we've been desperate to start a family for years, but wanted to get married first - we're already a year behind schedule lol). Loads of people have got engaged, so our venue is fully booked until winter, which is just too far away for us to be content with (and there's still no guarantee it would go ahead then).

2 - Go ahead with 30 guests. When we got engaged we spoke about what we wanted our wedding to look like and it definitely wasn't 30 guests, all wearing masks and social distancing. It would ruin the day and we'd have spent at least £20k on a wedding that we never would have gone for had we known. Also, I'll have to call around 70 people and disinvite them which I have serious anxiety about doing (I have relatives who've booked flights from around the world etc).

Either way, we would lose out on either cash deposits (maybe up to £1/2k if we rearranged again) or we miss out on the value and overpay for a wedding we didn't want.

There's no option to get a refund as the venue does both our wedding and the reception, we've rented the whole place for a day, so it doesn't matter if you're there for an hour or 24 if you see what I mean. They stipulated that we needed wedding insurance, which we have, but in the wedding insurance T&Cs they don't pay out if it's cancelled/rearranged due to 'government policy'. It's a real scam.

The 30 person limit on weddings and christenings is being lifted on 21st June and is exempt from any further extension to lockdown restrictions.
I've purposely avoided news and forums for the past 24 hours, so I haven't seen this anywhere. But god, that will absolutely make my week/month/year if it's true.

I've probably been driving people mad on here crying my arse off about my wedding, but god I'm fucking stressed haha.

Exactly; Despots lol.
If anything the inferences and the use of words like "suggest", "recommend" and "advise" seem to have bamboozled the general public into a confusion of their own illogic. Much like the roadmap; people wanted something to aim for, but it was always with caveats. Now it's "not fair!!".

20 of the top 21 infected England boroughs on the 5 day old data list from the government are in the NW. Including most of GM.

Bedford at 17 is the only exception.

Borough/ Pop Score on 5 day old finalised data / Pop score as of last night for GM

6 Hyndburn 285

7 Ribble Valley 273

8 Salford 242 (Now 298)

9 Manchester 229 (Now 272)

10 Preston 209

Oldham is the only GM borough outside the top 21 - at 24 Pop 103 (Now 163) So would be in it on up to date figures. Indeed likely ALL 10 boroughs are now in the top 20 in England.

Liverpool is climbing fast and currently at 102 with a Pop of 44.

There are still 37 boroughs of the 315 in single figure Pop score - including diverse places such as Hartlepool, Chesterfield, Ipswich and Carlisle.
