Jack Grealish

Said it before, said it again. He's not fit for us.

His whole style is based around him being the centre of his team's universe - hold onto the ball for ages, try to do everything himself.

Here, he'd just be a cog in the machine, and it'd take away much of what makes him 'special'. We don't need a player who's the most fouled in the game. That's not even a fucking thing and of nowt use to us.

Because he used to try to beat players and take the ball into the box with Leicester, I was convinced that when Mahrez signed that our penalty count and free kick count would rise accordingly. However, Guardiola coached that out of him over the course of his first season and had him rotate the ball faster, so presumably he’d have to do similar with Grealish.

Fair comment, but I still feel Grealish goes down far too easily and in a top side that is under enormous scrutiny, he will be sussed out quickly and develop a dubious reputation which will affect the referee.
He goes down all the time because he doesn't pass. He just holds the ball, shielding it from the opponent. When they tackle, he just puts his leg where the tackle is coming from, and receives contact.

Most of our players could draw those fouls (Bernardo, Foden, KDB, Raz, Mahrez, Jesus) but they don't. They release the ball before they get fouled, to one of the many players nearby, in acres of space.

Maybe the only way to stop Grealish is to foul him, for villa he is their main man, stop Grealish and you stop villa, in our team he wouldn't be the main man and wouldn't be doubled up giving him more space to produce, technically he is very good, also a grafter, I like Grealish and think he would do an excellent job in the gundogan role, but not as a winger, I like fast tricky wingers

Exactly, great players stand on their feet, wait for the perfect moment to make the pass/shot even if it means taking a hit from a defender.

Foden is the polar opposite of Grealish, makes the opponent commit and then dribbles past or makes the pass, he rides challenges and does not look to go to ground at every opportunity.

I'm a huge fan of Grealish but what we saw last night shows he has a lot to learn.
He played as an individual, a bit like Mahrez did when he came, whereas Foden plays within the team.
Pep will coach that into him, no doubt, but he's not the finished product by any means.

He has 0 goals for England. What is the hype about him starting for England? What is he good at ? So England are relying on him to win free kicks or corner kicks because that is all he did.

to be fair he’s barely played for England. Don’t see how you can judge him on England games

Thought it was hysterical that the pundits, that pisshead Lee Dixon and all the pink Englanders in the stadium were crying out for him all game, creamed themselves when he got brought on and then his highlights were passing to nobody on the edge of the box, passing to a substitute warming up and taking a kicking on the halfway line. Bit of an anti-climax that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Jack Grealish is a very, very good player but he isn't what he's currently being hyped up to be. When you see comments like "he's the missing piece of our jigsaw" and "under Pep, he could be the best in the league", you just know that it's an undeserved reputation and one that will bite him on the arse when he inevitably ends up not being the saviour of a team who are already the best in the country.

Last night meant nothing, he'll have worse performances and he'll have plenty of better ones. Not to mention that the whole team was shit and no sub was ever going to come on and rip through the Scotland team.

Because he's a bit of a divisive character, I feel like people are too invested in either over hyping him or being overly critical whenever he's not a game changer.

One thing's for sure, he won't get another reception like that coming off the bench for England if he joins us.

The key thing is he is able to draw fouls from the opposition because he gives them a chance of getting the ball then he takes it away from them.

For England he is so far from the opposition goal because of Southgate's inability to play expansive football. Put Grealish in City's team and we will get him the ball around the opposition box. Them fouls with then start to count for a whole lot more.
Oh shit. City are to become a set piece team. Forget flowing football. We are to become the new Stoke. Pep's successor sorted. Tony Pulis.
And we have Delaps son playing for us!!
It's all begining to make sense....

Southgate is so negative. Plays two holding midfield players against Scotland which obviously isn’t needed, England we’re not playing against France for fuck sake. It is as plain as the nose on Southgate face that he wants his side to play a safety first style of football, Phil Foden for instance in the two games has obviously been told not to take on the fullback and to pass the ball back to the nearest England player, he never does this for City and is always encouraged to go at players and carve out goal scoring chances . He needs to change tactics rapidly or England will be out early In the knockout phase.

Never plays on the right either. Gareth is some craic

But Grealish plays and the other side so isn't a like for like replacement for berny.

If Silva does leave for Barca then it would make more sense to have Dembele moving our way as part of the deal, or go for Colman at Bayern.

Both are technicaly better than grealish and suit Peps styles(s), can play either wing or central.

If we are getting rid of Jesus and Sterling, well then it wouldake sense to bring in another left sided AM in Grealish, but not to replace berny on the right.
Did I mention Bernardo? Bernardo rarely plays on the right these days anyway and we've got several options for out there already - Mahrez, Torres Foden, even Sterling who might return to form on the side he prefers. Grealish generally plays on the left or through the middle, but that means nothing to Pep. I'd be happy to see Foden and Grealish starting for England and I'd de equally happy to see the pair of them in the City squad.

My bigger concern in replacing Bernardo is workrate in the middle. He offers something that Fernandinho, Rodri and Gundogan can't. We need to find a Kante type to replace what he been do in there

Someone like Kante would totally transform City's team. I think he is currently the best player in the world. But these sort of players are hard to find. Kante is the ultimate player for linking defence to attack, a bit like Fern was at his peak. I was very impressed by Billy Gilmour last night.

Can't believe only Chelsea went for Kante. How much did Leicester pick him up forbas well? Must admit, this place would have been doing its nut if we'd been after him when he was in France.

Absolutely, it’ll be adios in the knockouts, most likely via a penalty shoot out loss at best, due to 120 mins of not scoring.

It’s extremely frustrating! I want Foden AND Grealish on the pitch, and Sterling should be the one to make way… Gareth seems to think it’s one or the other.
Rice or Phillips should be the one to make way. No point having that attacking talent and then picking to defensive midfielders, particularly two who don’t do anything quickly. The walking waistcoat has, like innumerable England managers before him, not given himself a chance of winning due to the paralysing fear of losing.
