Turkey didn't quarantine anyone till May.

I'm not quite following you; Turkey didn't quarantine any arrivals from India until May? Or are you talking about the UK?

As soon as India went on the red list, then anyone who had been in India in the previous 10 days before arrival into the UK would have to do the hotel quarantine.

Delhi - Istanbul - London would still be hotel quarantine even before Turkey went red.

Delhi - Istanbul 10 days - London would have meant no hotel quarantine on arrival into UK (before Turkey went Red obv)

The assumption that people could travel from a red list country and simply change planes en route to avoid hotel quarantine in the UK is incorrect, though how effective/ineffectively this was policed by the border force I've no idea.

By the way did anyone see the feature length Horizon on the BBC this week about the year long race to create the vaccines?

It came over as being surprisingly negative on the AZ vaccine and left you with the final word of it being stopped from being used in one country because it did not work. I expected a coda but there was none.

This seemed very strange as up to the last 10 minutes or so it had charted well the different vaccines across the world and the race to get them out. And the problems and successes.

The numbers we are seeing here seem not to suggest that sense of negativity for AZ. But as a science led programme (well sort of - not always - I was involved in one show many years ago and that was not so much about sciece as pseudoscience) you expect balance.

If any of our scientists in here saw it was I getting the wrong impression on their take on AZ? Mihht have been as I was half awake.
Recorded by the BBC so not surprising. They are anti anything that comes from there own country. If they want crap vaccines they should look at the Chinese ones.

Not if you changed passports. Which is the way travellers got round the problem.

Full GM details:

Total cases 1579 - UP 7 on Yesterday - from NW rise of 253. Far below the 50% par of around 126 - which is good for GM.

Wk to wk UP 418 when the NW rose by 1155 So GM is again well under the 50% of 577.

So another good day in GM county.

BOROUGH / CASES TODAY / V YESTERDAY / V LAST WEEK

BOLTON 128 / UP 10 / UP 34

BURY 92 / DOWN 6 / UP 13

MANCHESTER 383 / UP 12 / UP 64

OLDHAM 131 / DOWN 3 / UP 39

ROCHDALE 116 / UP 6 / UP 41

SALFORD 167 / DOWN 33 / UP 53

STOCKPORT 108 / DOWN 18 / UP 14

TAMESIDE 117 / UP 27 / UP 45

TRAFFORD 102 / DOWN 17 / UP 32

WIGAN 235 / UP 29 / UP 83

Not one borough down week to week. But Wgan is not doing well. Nor is Manchester though hints of a plateau. Salford up big week to week but down the most on the day.

Stockport doing slightly better today but containing rather than falling. And ate off another 10 from Trafford in the overall Pop Score race to prove it. Was 200 behind two weeks ago. Is now just 80.

However, all GM Pop Scores today are up. Which is not the way to be headed.

So could be worse is the best description.

Greater Manchester

Weekly total cases:-

Tameside 654, Bury 656, Rochdale 675, Stockport 692, Trafford 703 , Oldham 705 , Bolton 762 , Salford 1078 . Wigan 1256, Manchester 2427.

Manchester, Salford and Wigan all rising and over 4 figures weekly now too.

These three well ahead of the other 7 who are bunched togather much more closely - though Bolton had its worst day in a while today possibly ominously as Zoe surprisingly has predicted for last few days.

Only 4 boroughs below the 700 - as in 100 cases a day average - and in all four not by much.

GM Weekly Pop Data after today:~

Borough / Pop Today / 7 days ago / up or down wk to wk/ Testing is % of local population who have tested positive for Covid over past year.

As ever with Pop going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.

Manchester 439 / 361 / UP 78 Testing positive 11.2%

Salford 417 / 332 / UP 85 Testing positive 10.5%

Wigan 382 / 302 / UP 80 Testing positive 10. 1%

Bury 343 / 328 / UP 15 Testing positive 10.4%

Rochdale 304 / 231 / UP 73 Testing positive 10.7 %

Trafford 301 / 240 / UP 61 Testing positive 8,0 %

Oldham 297 / 223 / UP 74 Testing positive 10.7%

Tameside 289 / 213 / UP 76 Testing positive 9,0%

Bolton 265 / 258 / UP 7 Testing positive 11.5%

Stockport 236 / 197 / UP 39 Testing positive 8.1%

GM - despite not being as bad as elsewhere - has still been hit by the big numbers rise over the past week.

This is revealed today as for the first time in some weeks EVERY borough - even Bolton - is now UP week to week in Pop score numbers.

Salford who join Manchester in the 400s today and their fellow city are well ahead and both now close to where Bolton was 6 weeks ago at the height of the arrival of the new variant in the NW.

Wigan close to joining them in that too high band any day now.

Stockport and Bolton the two best boroughs (if 200 numbers are in any way best that is!) both only inched up today but are rising now after falling for the past week or two.

Trafford's high numbers took them over 300 in their Pop Score- rare high ground for what has tradiutionally been the lowest with Stockport in GM.

Their case numbers remain worse than Stockport given the population and expected cases and even today it lost another chunk of its lead on overall Pop Score.

Stockport now on 8129 after the 'lowest' GM Pop Score rise today (37) and Trafford rose by 47 to 8049 cutting their lead by that 10 to just 80.

However, Bolton still has the highest GM Pop Score on 11, 539.

But Manchester is rapidly catching up in the 11K club going up another 67 today to 11, 173

Rochdale on 10, 689 and Oldham 10, 690 remain almost identical.

Salford rose big by 65 today and are on 10, 463 and Bury just behind on 10, 373.

Wigan went up by the most today - 71 - to reach 10, 085.

So just Stockport and Trafford - both well below - 10K for now - and Tameside made it into the 9000 club today on 9004 after a rise of 52 but 10K even for Tameside at that rate is three weeks or so away.

He’d lost the party.
He’d have been sacked if he hadn’t gone.
Gove one step nearer to the throne.

Correct, shown no spine with Cummings and even more so now. Hancock is a Tosser but at least he had the balls to resign.
The charge sheet for the tories is totting up
Cummings, Hancock and Professor Lockdown
It's no wonder people are fed up.
It mustn't be forgotten that aswell as his affair he was a very incompetent health minister.

Some are blind and won’t see it; won’t see where the government has failed every step of the way. I don’t really have a party, but what I’ve found as I’ve got older how cult like it is following one and blind and biased people become. It’s a shame, even worse they’ll still get in power next time around. Madness

They will get in power again as Labour are not a great pull. I think it will take another decade before they get back in to be honest.
