Political relations between UK-EU

Was struck by this quote ’I won’t let this Govt defeat me’. The Party of business has adopted a hostile environment for UK business. Imagine this happening under a Labour Govt. and then imagine the frothing outrage of the papers and Tory supporting Brexiteers.

I also noticed today that patel wants to deal with asylum/immigrant claimants the same way Denmark does. Is Denmark in the EU?

Yes. They haven't actually relocated anybody to Rwanda yet, as far as I can ascertain. There is already a mechanism for relocating asylum seekers to a third country, but the convention is that it should be used for times when they are resourced stretched due to high numbers. It doesn't really follow they can take that position they can only settle 500 refugees when places in Africa and Bangladesh have people living in huge squalid settlements.

And it will only ever be poorer countries cooperating to secure foreign currency because EU neighbours have already taken their "fair share" snd won't want anything to do with this outsourcing of moral responsibility.

This move to setup a joint venture seems like a play to undermine the slim prospects of collective action on refugees within the EU and create disharmony within the 27.

Two issues for Johnson and his Brexit arse lickers

1/ - they can't keep deferring the implementation of all border checks etc - the EU won't wear it and even the most vehement Leaver will start to recognise BRINO is occurring
2/ - the pesky ONS will keep releasing trading data that is more and more negative.
We seem to be trying to settle for BRINO in one direction only so the EU exporters don't get too inconvenienced. No wonder they're pissing themselves laughing at us whilst watching the transfer of key sectors of our economy to them.

The UK’s trade association for horticulture, the HTA, has launched ‘Let Britain Grow’, a campaign calling for the Government to negotiate a plant health agreement with the EU. A members survey suggest about 80% are experiencing negative Brexit impacts.‘ @BBC

Not even the horticulturists can find the sunlit uplands to grow things...

My feelings exactly. Met Bruce a couple of times on business. Always seemed like a sound guy but this just goes to show how out of touch and susceptible to propaganda many people are, even successful businessmen like Bruce.
Born in Worksop.

Knowing that town you sadly can't take that out of him...

He made a valid point about how this government have fucked up musicians touring. The EU offered a waiver on performers but the Tories refused it.

one of the more enjoyable aspects of Brexit is all the fucking idiots in the music biz outing themselves so I can make a mental note of who's career to ignore in future
Some of his early Iron Maiden sound prophetic now he's admitted it.

Another person who did an idiotic thing which is now biting them on the arse, but I have a modicum of respect for anyone who admits it like she does. ""I was the turkey who voted for Christmas".

The Hotel Inspector: 'I voted Leave - but Brexit has caused us enormous problems with recruitment' (inews.co.uk)

Antidotally I hear from some of the employment agencies that the pandemic has been the much bigger issue with many people retraining and finding they can earn the same sort of money without the unsocial hours. Undoubtedly businesses are now being hamstrung by not being able to recruit directly from the EU to help fill that void, firms are now having to offer decent wages to attract staff…I doubt many have any issue with that consequence apart from those now that run said businesses bemoaning being a turkey.

Looks promising

This is the bit that I don’t understand our reluctance to agree to:

“He repeated the EU's preference for a temporary Swiss-style veterinary agreement as a solution for Northern Ireland, where the UK continues to follow all EU agri-food rules”

I’ve read that the UK government view it as a potential problem with negotiating trade agreements but I very much doubt the UK public have much appetite for meat produced with lower standards than our own. We are a nation of animal lovers.

EU standards are lower than the UK's. One recent example
