Coronavirus (2021) thread

Bloody hell just found out the ex’s dad who had the mad Xmas day gathering of 14 people has very bad long Covid and is barely able to leave the house and hasn’t for months!

Can't believe 21,880 predicted cases in Bury (15% of the population !).

If that's anything like accurate, obviously we'd have to wait a couple of weeks to see the rising hospitalisation, but as of today the Government stats show minimal admissions and only 1 death in last week. Feels good news, oddly.
It does seem rather high especially as the figures produced by Heald Place indicate that only 10% of the population has tested positive during the rest of the pandemic. On top of that was the comment by Rammy Blue that his local testing site had been quiet over the past few days.
One last observation is that according to Council figures over 120k have received their first jab with over 90k receiving both jabs. So are lots of Bury residents with at least some protection still picking up the virus? If so, what effect does that have on the rest of the country?

The way Zoe works is complicated and based on factoring up local people using the app so always guesstimates subject to big jumps if a few log on or do not.

The 21,880 cases - remember is not literal cases BUT 'active cases' factored per million people.

So as cases can last weeks it is even more confusing,

They also cite another number for everywhere that I used to post too but it just makes things even more confusing.

That number for Bury is 4126 which Zoe estimates is the number of active cases in Bury right now.

The other number is really more akin to a Pop Score but not an actual equivalent.

Anyhow in the real world Bury was best in GM again and the only borough sub 100 - all be it on 99!

I don’t think one jab is having much effect on prevention of catching the delta variant. All anecdotal but my son and daughter have both said they know loads who have caught it in the last couple of weeks. Hopefully a single jab is preventing serious illness, however because they’re all young it’s unlikely they’d be too ill anyway. I know plenty of them getting it aren’t reporting it to avoid the Covid police so I suspect the current reported cases is well under reality. If the delta variant was the original one we’d be seriously fucked. It’s great that the vaccine is working well and the vulnerable aren’t being significantly affected.

Both the NW and Greater Manchester had very good days today.

Pretty much everywhere down.

Total NW cases fall 1036 on yesterday to 3997 from 5033.

GM falls 514 of that number to 1703 today which is just under half (518), So really falling right on par with the rest of the NW now. Which is good in terms of overall numbers falling,

Week to week GM is up just 114 from 1589 - in a NW rise week to week of 304 - under the 152 expected,

Thanks for the clarification!
The active case number, even though more realistic, is still pretty high compared to the total official cases published by yourself on here. Even allowing for non reported cases it is still six times higher than the total for last week and I am aware that active cases cover a wider time period.
Just seems counter intuitive that people would register on the Zoe app without going through the test system, unless I am completely missing the point.

I do not know how long they consider active but if Bury had 100 cases a day that is 700 in one week and you would only need to factor them as active for 5 or 6 weeks to be pretty near the 4000 number supposedly active now.

Sarah Gilbert.

“We’re not completely out of the woods. And that’s why I’m very worried about getting vaccines around the rest of the world because we need to stop the virus being transmitted and continuing to evolve. That could give us a new variant that is going to be really difficult to deal with.”

Does anyone think the vaccines should be made compulsory?
Surely making it mandatory would help us flush the virus out even more?
I know it's never gonna happen in this country but I've read in other countries that you have to have it, think the Philippines.

Marvin and Sarah would be a highly compatible couple with their shared interest in Covid variants.

Seeing full crowds at Wimbledon is really fucking me off and there letting in 140,000 at Silverstone soon!
All these test events are in the South, nothing here.
Is this really a good idea with this variant running riot and why is the North getting nothing?
A bit of a stretch to describe Silverstone is in the South. It's closer to the Midlands. It's over an hour north of the most northern point in London.

We were talking about this today. What would that actually mean? That if someone refuses you tie them down and inject them? Or put them in prison? Or fine them? It’s a tough one.
