So despite the headlines, not that bad.
In fact it says the vaccines still do exactly what we knew they would do. Stop you getting very sick and needing hospital unless you were pretty unlucky. Just not quite as well as they did with the earlier variants.

Far too many still think vaccines are magic and kill Covid. They do not. They mitigate the symptoms to tolerable levels. That is their main purpose. Though any reduction on catching it and infectivity is welcome it was never really the point. It was to stop hospital numbers reaching unsustainable levels,

Wales data:

1 death - was 0 last week

698 cases - was 281 last week

6.4% positivity - was 4% last week.

IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING THIS IS JUST DATA FROM ONE DAY - YESTERDAY.

Cases reported in Wales on Tuesdays over past few weeks since 8 June:

22 - 98 - 175 - 281 - 698

Gone almost exactly the same as NE England - up by 30 times in just over a month

Yet they are imposing some restrictions whilst we remove them, though our prevalence is many times higher...

Israel vaccinating children now too.

They are prioritising control of the virus in a way we are proposing to move completely away from.

Not to argue whether they're right or wrong, but they're definitely taking it more seriously.

We have taken it seriously. we have lived 3/4 lives at best for the best part of two summers. We have vaccinated so many and i fully support the decision to open up.

I broadly agree, but as we can't be sure ,why remove things that aren't really restrictive and don't impact our everyday lives like masks. Why not keep them for another month or so to see how we go.

It is a gamble but it is much easier for a smaller nation like Israel than one as big as the UK to keep doing this. Especially one so inter dependent as we are.

I suspect we would not be opening up in current circumstances if there was any confidence it could be successfully imposed and if the economic damage of not opening up was anything like it probably will be in Israel compared with the probable far greater impact here.

All nations - especially economy driven ones - will soon face the same choice we have both made. Nobody can lock down forever or even medium term in the modern world. There will be a point for all where the balance of risk dictates that. It is just a matter of how long you can hold out without irreversible damage that might be worse than the mitigated damage of Covid with vaccines.

It will be intriguing to see who got this most right, As nobody will get it exactly right whatever they opt to do,

My mum's just been told to isolate as a kid in her class has got covid. The kid told her directly she wasn't feeling well so she's defo exposed to it. Let's see if those jabs work hey. Fingers crossed. Heh. She's double-jabbed with AZ. Gonna be a nerve-wracking few days personally!

I know you post a lot of factual stuff, but it wouldn’t harm you every now and then to feel like a positive post or slant is worthwhile, you are bordering on being a doom monger and I think it’s boring most people on here which i feel is borne out by the lack of likes your posts receive generally.

They are the Pfizer petri-dish?

Hopefully will be fine, we have friends whose 18 year old son is positive and was fairly ill. They've been double jagged and even though living and isolating with him are still negative now a week later. As is the grandfather who'd also been in regular contact with him.

It's easier for Israel to mandate masks and allow vaccination of children?

I don't think so.
I meant economy and inter dependency not medical options like that.

I suspect those are simply because in the UK tolerance of mask wearing seems to be falling so you either fine millions or let people choose. Just asking them to wear one is only as good as your state allows imposition. I think freedom of choice is a treasured British ideology that will not easily be eroded.

And I am sure children being vaccinated will happen when it is deemed safe enough to do so.

Haha!

Don't mind getting no likes.

But here's an optimistic memory for you. You might even "like" it.

"Rejoice! The end is in sight!"

A mate who lives in a pub where is wife is the landlady tested positive last Wednesday, pair of them double jabbed, she's type 1 diabetic, coeliac and had a heart attack last year, only late 30's and not at all overweight. She and the people that came into contact with her husband have all tested negative, really encouraging. Pub reopens tomorrow.

Hopefully your mum will be fine.

This thread needs both perspectives as there simply is not the right way and the wrong way out of this.

The whole world is learning from one another on the fly, So the more different ideas that are tried the better we might be in seeing what works.

This never has been a political fight. Politicians might twist it that way as it is there nature. But this is a fight we are all in together and science will always guide but never lead and there will be conflicts that result in mistakes.

This might prove to be one of them.

But nobody can be sure of that or assess easily the balance of right and wrong that might occur.
