Jack Grealish

He's not the brightest button in the box, but he seems to very much enjoy his life as it is. It's now just about whether he wants to be a big fish in a little pond, or a smaller fish in an ocean.

It's the same in any job. If you're happy with what you've got, why change it?

Regular football and local legend status, or rotation and just another player?

The lad will probably get similar wages at Villa and will still be in the England set up. He loves his club and would love to see them back in the top 5 or 6. Nowt wrong with that.

If roles were reversed, what do you think Phil Foden would want to do?
Go to Villa.

I also think they are one of the teams that can push for top 4. Them and Leicester (who missed out of the top 4 by one point last season) could be more of a threat than the likes of Arsenal and Spurs imo. Not saying they’ll get it but they could be a threat to other clubs.
Can you honestly see them getting top 4 ahead of Us, Rags, Dippers and Chavs, I'd say it's a pretty long shot, current odds:

City 1/16
Chavs 2/7
Dippers 1/4
Rags 1/3

Villa, 11 favourites at 22/1 behind Leeds, Everton and West Ham amongst others. I've been an odds compiler in the past (before algorithms) and would agree with the price, can't see it.

If City arranged a deal with Grealish and Barnett, then made an offer for the release clause and then Grealish and Barnett started discussing a new contract with Villa, City would drop the deal like a sack of bricks. We've already seen that with Fred and Jorginho and Sanchez.

If there was a release clause, it'd be over. Would you like to come here Jack? here's what we'll offer you. Agreeable? good. Here's £85m Villa. Welcome to Manchester City.

With loads of other business to be done, ingoing and outgoing, the club wouldn't piss about delaying activating a release clause.
You make it sound so simple,

You can’t have it both ways. Villa cannot be a club waiting to dominate domestic football and rate Dean Smith at the same time. Which is it?

Villa are building for a bright future and Dean Smith is a stepping stone, or it’s all bluster and Dean is the zenith of our ambitions?
Underestimate Smith at your peril.

Dead trim Dean Smif is sound. Villa could do with a lot worse, maybe in due course he'll need changing but he's fine for now.

You mean like Roberto Mancini and Pellegrini were for us?

And who knows , maybe even Pep is a stepping stone.

Dean Smith has done well, he looked out of his depth the first season after promotion, but has since shown he has something.

Not the greatest but still a very decent manager doing a very decent job.

Top 4 could be a closed shop for the forseeable future in my opinion. Look at the squads United and Chelsea are building and then the sides us and Liverpool already have. Villa haven’t got a hope of breaking that anytime soon, they’ll be lucky to get in the european conference league. From a footballing perspective it would make no sense to stay at Villa over coming here, but I won’t begrudge him for staying loyal to the club he loves if that’s what he decides.

Considering that it would also not make sense for Villa to even think of selling Grealish, rather just improve the squad around him, making him the main man

You're talking absolute shite.

No one is trying to anything both ways. Villa is an ambitious project. Smith is a good manager, and Villa fans love him.

Obviously not. If he leaves its because he wants to join a more competitive team and not because Villa need or want to sell him.
