Yeah I actually like that idea - it also means Sterling and Grealish are more than 4/5 yards apart.
I'm not saying Sterling and Grealish won't work, it's gonna take some work though
Agree. There were a couple of moments in the first 15mins when Spurs didn’t know who to track and mark - space opened up and that bodes well. Think it was Gundo who seemed out of sorts, doesn’t seem happy when shifted even slightly to the right flank. I love it when he dictates the play from deeper in the middle and we didn’t have that platform today.

The only reason Fern is getting any shit is because Rodri has not stepped up to a world class dm. I would give Zin a chance at dm. He has learned his defensive duties at lb and can pass and hold up the ball.

Should of never have resigned him.
Writing on the wall when he didn’t start the biggest game in our history

That was the manager's fault, not Fernandinho's. We will be back as good as ever in a month's time, get everyone back and match fit

What it is posters and jumping to conclusions about City players?

If when the team has settled down we're seeing Fernandinho have the same issues then sure, make your claims. But prime Fernandinho would have struggled today. Any DM would have done.

being 1-0 up, 2-0 up in games and bringing him on from benchfor last 20 min to close out the game: yes.

sticking him behind KDB, Grealish, Sterling, Mahrez, Kane who will not help him much when opponents attack is not a very good idea as he is 36 years old facing runners to counter us.

Problem is thats even a hard situation to solve for Rodri who is half the player than Fernandinho was in 13-14 where he alone defended in midfield as Yaya was hardly making a tackle (but in return he scored a shitoad of goals.)

I am worried we lose Bernardo's workrate in middle if he leaves and the balance we had last season we lose, defensively.

we need to bring back some heavy pressing to make it work, not sure we have the fitness to that.

I was calling out for Bernardo to come on for Gundogan in the 2nd half as Ferna was just getting so overworked in there it was unreal.

It’s almost like Rodri has become the elephant in the room, if Bernie goes, Christ,,,,,

He was brilliant in the first half and not too bad in the second.
He’s fine if we keep possession and shape, but the moment we concede he’s going to struggle to get back. If you look at the chances in the first half, when Mendy and Sterling lost possession, he was struggling to cover the yards, and at the goal he’s caught in two minds and too far up the park.

Part of the problem today was that Grealish drifted too much and was intent on taking players on. Taking players on is fine for him as he invariably gets by them, but he needs to hold his position. However, Sterling and Mendy lost possession when trying to take players on and that left them all chasing shadows.

Our success is built on us keeping the ball and the ball doing the running.

As has been said many times, Pep wanted an additional forward so Rodri and Fern were sacrificed; it is nothing to do with a lack of trust or writing on the wall.

Totally this. He is not Kante anymore..and Kante won’t be Kante in 3 seasons time either.

haven't seen us exposed in counters like that for a long time

has an absolutely infuriating tendency to misread the situation and play 10 times more nonchalantly than required at certain situations which results in a loss of possession. exhibited a number of baffling brain farts today. the problem wasn't just the athleticism, really really poor decision making too.

Unfortunately age is catching up with Dhino, against pace he struggles as does Rodri. Today on the counter Spurs cut us open far too easily.

It's how they're coached by Pep. Stones, Gundogan, Zinchenko, and Rodri are the same. Keep a cool head at all times and be confident in your own ability to play. It almost always works, and there are many times a match that we benefit from it and we don't even realise it.

The problem is that it can backfire pretty hard, such as in the way you've mentioned above. Especially when most of the team looks to be not quite up to speed yet.

I dont think pep wants or instructs the players to let their guard down the minute they win back the ball. But ferna does a lot of the time and kind of "expects" that the opponents will understand they have lost the ball, drop back and defend, at which point you can allow yourself to be more casual and maintain low intensity at the back as you move the ball around. That's a transition period.

The problem is that a lot of the time he does that too early, and not expecting the opponent to give us a taste of our own medicine and press back. He drops his pace and speed and doesn't look who he gives the ball to because he assumes its safe, and ends up losing it. Happened a few times today and against Leicester too!

I think there's merit to this.
