Doesn't matter how good he is. He has told Pep he wants to go. Why would Pep force him to stay here. Apparently he told him last year, Pep convinced him to stay and here we are again.

Lets be honest, hes been poor now for 18mths, flashes of brilliance like Villa away last year but by and large his head hasn't been there.

We have just spent 100m on someone who is of a similar type of player and yet we are going to keep Bernardo as well. Not a chance.
Yet that 100m pound player has never shown anything at his previous club either to suggest that he will be vastly better than B.Silva....he could be but he also may not be......

This sounds identical to the Kane situation, yet spurs are holding out for £150m.

Bernardo is a regular for the reigning Champions and Portugal and has multiple years left on his contract. If Sancho cost £70 odd million, then Bernie has to be worth at least that.

Far from identical to Kane.Truth is we probably need somebody to leave, if we think we are getting Kane, Bernardo is the player that wants to go a plays in a position that that we are stacked in. So we take the best deal we can. If this is it then this is it.
Comparing to other players in different clubs and situations is pointless.

He will be IMO but in the end thats counts for nothing. The opinions of those paid big money, and to be fair with a track record to match think he will. To say he has never shown anything previously though is just wrong, and he was better than Bernardo last season.

Just because Spurs act like dicks, break every promise to their players, insist on keeping them when they’re unhappy and have a chairman who’s a two faced fuckwit doesn’t mean we have to behave in a similar manner and I’m, for one, glad we don’t.

I agree, but i don't want us to be taken for a mug either.

If teams want one of our players they should pay the going rate but £45m for Bernie is taking the piss imho.

Im not id keep bernardo unhappy or not than just give him away for peanuts its about time our club stopped being pushovers for good.

I dont disagree Grealish could become great.....

He was better than Bernardo last season but Bernardo at his best is better than Grealish at his best at present....but thats not the point or argument.

If we are willing to pay 100m for a plyer who has done little to deserve such a hefty price tag, then surely Bernardo who has done more in the game both in the league(s) and internationally as well is worth a bit more than the 45m being touted around..look at the centre half that Arsenal have just bought - 50m and he has achieved nothing in his career......its not like Bernardo's contract is nearly up..he has 3-4 years left on it.

I know Grealish had a release clause which is why we paid what we did....Tammy abraham has just gone for 40m however.....Sane went for 55m (I think) and he only had a year left on his contract

But then everyone will complain about us constantly being fleeced.

Lose Bernardo and Sane for Torres and Grealish. I get it’s hard to stop players leaving if they want to go but I think we have downgraded and wonder why 2 match winners who had big impact in the bigger games became unhappy??
Good point. You would think they would be happy to stay with one of the top teams in the world, continue to win trophies whilst being extremely well paid.
It would make you wonder what is in the mind of Sane, Bernardo and to a lesser extent Eric Garcia.

Sane played like the world owed him and then one of the biggest clubs in the world came knocking, he felt he probably had to play for Bayern to play for Germany and expand his marketability.

Bernardo just fancies a change. He's won nearly everything domestically for us and now wants a bit of sun apparently, can't knock that decision.

Bernie was racially abused.

Sane was tapped up by his mum and the jackboots.

Jack is only in the door and Ferran is 21.

Different stories for me. Sane was not looking quite that clever that year, and had always looked prone to a sulky and petulant attitude breaking through. His family and agents got wind of a move to Bayern, and that was that - foolish on both their parts as it happened. May have looked like City had little choice but we surely could see he wasn't looking as good a prospect for us as he had previously.

Think Grealish will come good big time, but losing Bernie is a mistake due to his work rate and flexibility, also like his character.

But if he did become disillusioned after the social media thing, it's hard for me to argue that England with Brexit-fever, the flag waving, the 'harsh environment', was a place he wanted to be. He will have been pilloried by xenophobic hypocrits, and the atmosphere has barely changed, right up to this summer's final and what happened afterwards.

You want players to be settled, but they are not machines. They are humans with minds of their own, their own stories, complicated, nuanced emotional selves. It can go wrong, and there are definitely times when it's better to let them, even encourage them, to leave.

Many a time I've known I would be better out of my current environment, but there was no way I could make it happen and keep the security I have here, that means I never have to worry about things actually becoming unmanagable. It's hurt.... It's really fucking hurt and harmed me. Been so unhappy and confused and stressed I don't even think it's something I can deal with properly.... if it wasn't as important as it could be - the most secure guarantee of a roof over my head I could ever find, one I can keep despite wonky health that gets in the way of work - and if I hadn't lived through that going wrong and losing less secure homes several times, and seen the outcome, and promised myself a long time ago, that I'd never end up in that place again - if the need to stay hadn't been that properly fundamental to my security, or if other options had been available, then I would have been insane not to have moved. But the other options were not acceptable.

Look at Bernie and Leroy (back then). Their alternative options are incredible. If it's gone wrong, and it can happen to anyone, you are a fool not to let them go. Keeping genuinely unhappy and unsettled people against their will is definitely possible, but it's never the right thing, unless you are a small time ****.
