Bit misinformed this, who the hell buys printed newspapers anymore?

Far from being a “fringe publication” The Guardian is the second most visited newspaper site in the UK, with around 160m views a month, second only to the Daily Mail.

In fact, for a period in 2020, The Guardian overtook the Mail to be the most visited newspaper website.

It’s absolutely fair to disagree with its editorial content. But it’s just factually incorrect to call it a “fringe” outlet.

I used the phrase fringe publication for deliberate reasons. The website has a large global audience and always has done but it has really struggled to monetise that audience, not least because so many of their readers are outside the UK. They have also been hit badly by Covid which is why they have just cut its workforce by about 12 per cent (180 jobs) and recorded a loss of £36m.
The point I am making is that the Guardian only represents the opinion of a small fraction of the UK these days and is not really in the mainstream anymore. It used to be one of the best newspapers (news providers) in the world but has become a parody of itself.

I actually agree on the editorial content - it is often a parody of itself and often displays a superior, even sneering attitude to readers in the north.

Which is a strange angle for it to take, given for any Progressive party to do well, it would rely on widespread support in the north.

But the figures quoted in the article are actually the UK figures. The Guardian has been either first or second highest rated newspaper for monthly viewers in the UK. Although I think that trend is actually reflected worldwide too.

When you see the dominance of the BBC’s monthly viewers for news, which is generally thought of as moderate left of centre, it’s possibly an editorial decision taken by The Guardian not to compete with them directly, but by presenting a more sensationalist left wing viewpoint, it’s more likely to provoke clicks and shares than trying to compete with the dominant and more moderate BBC.

It’s like The Guardian are copying the Daily Mail model but in reverse.

The thing with almost all of these arsehole journalists and ‘Outraged on Twitter’ keyboard jockeys is they only pretend to give a fuck about human rights, state murders, etc because they‘re jealous it’s not their club with multi billionaire investors.

Newcastle fans were just as bad with City bingo until last week, and no doubt whatsoever if Spurs, Everton or fucking Stalybridge were taken over by a rich owner that the media linked to a dodgy background their fans would celebrate him and not give a fuck about his past.

None of these dickheads have the confidence or bollocks to admit they don’t give two shits about a Saudi journalist, modern slavery or anything else, because they‘re jealous of City and now of Newcastle. I certainly don’t give a fuck, I just want City to win everything.

The Super League debacle somewhat highlighted all of this. That was what it looked like when people were genuinely pissed off.

People have shown their hands through that. Now we see that all of this is just fake outrage because they don't have the balls to say their upset that it wasn't their football club that was taken over.

I was channel hopping yesterday morning, when I saw the actor Jason Watkins being interviewed on Good Morning Britain. Being an admirer of his work I thought I'd listen to the interview, even though it was half way through. He was talking about a new drama he is starring in that has been commissioned by the BBC, called 'The Trick'. Apparently, it was about a climate researcher whose emails were hacked and doctored by 'deniers'. He went on to describe how untruths and agendas are repeated and repeated till they become fact. Below is a couple of paragraphs from a write up I found online regarding the programme. Sound familiar?

Professor Philip Jones received a barrage of hate mail and death threats that pushed him close to suicide after it was claimed emails, hacked from his laboratory, proved climate change research was a fraud.

Jones was head of the Climatic Research Unit at East Anglia University in Norwich in 2009 when thousands of documents and emails were stolen from its computers.

Contents from the emails were carefully selected and used by climate change deniers to promote the idea that scientists were falsely alleging fossil fuel emissions were warming the planet – but these allegations were later rejected in several enquires.

It adds: “The film also charts the unjustified persecution of Phil Jones, his wife Ruth’s support of her husband and the fight for the ultimate exoneration of himself and the science.”

“There was a definite strategy at work and a massive disinformation campaign. Yet, when I talk to those who remember any of it now, most still think a scientist really did get caught tweaking the figures.

I couldn't help but notice the correlation between this topic and the Der Spiegel shite that bites us on the arse, by every man and his dog with an axe to grind against our club or owners. I wonder if the BBC will commission a drama
about the lies spread around by that 'rag', that has done untold damage to our reputation. I won't hold my breath.
While these lies and agendas are floating around in cyberspace, they can be used by anyone with an agenda at any given time. It will never, ever, go away unless it is challenged forcibly and legally. Again, I won't hold my breath.

The same thing occurred to me while watching it last night. There was a more standard documentary on BBC4 about it too.
A hack, misrepresentation, repetition, screeching in the media, and 10 years delay in making progress in the field.

PS - Watkins is very good in it.

Let’s be honest, there isn’t 1 tabloid that is pro City. But out of them all, 3 tabloids stand out for me, the Daily Mail, the Guardian, and the Daily Express.

I give you the Daily Express City headline after the 1-5 away win at Bruges in the CL tonight.

Do they still make the Challenger/latest tank up there?
I was once travelling along the A66 from Newcastle to Carlisle, on my way to Glasgow, when I came up behind one. I had to wait behind it for 5 miles until I got to the dual carriageway section before I could pass the bastard!
I was driving a Lada at the time, and felt like knocking it off the road, but it had more armour plating than my car.

City score 5 goals yet again without a "striker".

Typical deflection response rather than give praise and make their red team suporters feel more inadequate. Remind me, how many strikers do the rags have and how many goals have they scored this season, let alone 5 in a game?

Sounds like an imbecile, media studies graduate bringing all his intern experience to generate clicks to get on the pay roll of the red scouse or rags as a paid shill.

Not clicking on it but I guess this glaring issue didn’t get exposed when we played both of these teams off the park in their own stadiums recently.

What is it that they'd expose and why the hell didn't they expose it in the last few weeks when City played both off the park?
