do you have to self-isolate still if you're double jabbed? trying to work it out for a mate who got pinged, but i cant find a definite answer

edit: actually i think it's fairly clear on Gov site: "From Monday 16 August, people who are double jabbed or aged under 18 will no longer be legally required to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case. "

so no, he wont have to being double vaxxed

Just got back from trekking to Mars - or the health centre in the middle of nowhere with one bus an hour to and from that goes via Timbuktu it felt like. Talking to a woman on the bus who is mobility impaired and she lives almost next door to this centre but the NHS on line sent her to one two miles away. She was told her local clinic was not on the list so must not be doing it. I suggested when she got back from shopping she go ask the staff in the health centre if she can book direct there. It was literally seconds even for her from the bus stop we were at.

I tried to go by bus as well as coming back like I did but the bus never turned up and as they only run every hour I could not wait so had to get a taxi there. £!2 to go. Free to come home with my GM bus pass.

They were much better organised than when I went there for my first AZ jab. No queues outside - or a long line snaking round and dodging cars as it was then across the car park when I was there in February.

They had built a custom 'waiting' room with individual seat and plastic screens isolating each one. Much like they use - but you may never have noticed as they are designed to look invisible - on TV game shows filmed since Covid arrived. A nice touch I thought.

A lot of people came early (though because I had to get a taxi there I was even earlier than most of them) but they were slotting them in as soon as they can. I got mine around 20 minutes early which meant I only had a 5 minute wait for the bus into town rather than the expected 45 minutes.

They told everyone up front it was Pfizer and asked if they had ever had any allergic reactions to anything. One woman wanted AZ and they said she could if she preferred though they were only using Pfizer or Moderna at present and they looked up for her where they had stocks of AZ so she could call them.

It was literally seconds getting the actual jab and then you were asked to wait in a separate room for 15 minutes. Though it was pretty much by self ID and one man who came in after I did looked at his watch and left after about 3 minutes and nobody said anything.

I went and got the bus into town and as it was a nice day walked the mile and a half home from there.

As of yet nothing other than the slightly sore arm (have had worse with flu jabs) but it is early days so we will see.

BBC just noticed Stockport has problems - just as it is getting better after weeks!

Lead item on regional news.

Stepping Hill Hospital have stopped all routine visits as they are under pressure from rising Covid patient numbers.

Have noticed the deaths here have risen there of late - an inevitable consequence of the lag from the big case numbers a few weeks back.Van Tamm was on Breakfast Time live answering viewers questions this morning and was adamant this is not over yet. But did say he thinks we will be in a much better place if we get through the next 3 or 4 months.

Vaccination to be compulsory for NHS staff from April.

Quite right too, in my view. A friend of my wife’s a district nurse visiting patients in the Bolton area and she won’t have it because she’s vegan and it’s been tested on animals!!!

WTF?? All medications have been tested on animals. She’s full of shit as she does lots of stuff in her personal life that breaks her ‘principles’ so as far as I’m concerned she gets vaccinated or she gets sacked.
You want to be careful what you wish for.

Up to 10% of the hospital workforce isn’t jabbed and you think sacking that group will make us all safer?
It‘s working well for care homes to be fair, with homes reducing capacity or even shutting, with even more people taking up a hospital bed because they’ve got nowhere to go.

Hardly any care staff were unvaccinated as there was a surge just before the deadline. The problems in that sector are more to do with low pay, unsocial hours and the current labour shortage. If there was no requirement to be vaccinated the same staff shortages would exist.

Covid numbers falling like a stone (2/3 in a week) in my area tell me SAGE hasen't a clue how to model an epidemic.

It is interesting to note that Covid epidemics collapse between 120 and 150 days after reaching 0.02% of the population per day It is a matter of record. (We test more and find more cases so you can increase that to 0.05%)

The Gompertz function in action?

They aren’t reducing capacity and blocking hospital beds because of vaccination policy, that’s happening because of poor pay and brexit.

Gompertz has been evident since the start of this. The science has been abandoned not followed.

That's odd, NHS rang me after my positive PCR test and told me not to take another test for 90 days.
Wonder if they meant don't take another PCR? I took a lateral flow on 23/10, and that was negative.
In all 5 calls I had, they didn't mention anything about 90 days.

This is on the gov.uk site

Anyone who has previously received a positive COVID-19 PCR test result should not be re-tested within 90 days of that test, unless they develop any new symptoms of COVID-19.

If, however, you do have an LFD antigen test within 90 days of a previous positive COVID-19 PCR test, for example as part of a workplace or community testing programme, and the result of this test is positive, you and your household should self-isolate and follow the steps in this guidance again.

Got a kick in the nuts the other day. Have a trip booked to Canada at Christmas (we’ll…3rd time it’s been rebooked). Kids are all vaccinated, but it turns out Canada require double dose vaccination. Trying to now see if I can get my teenagers the second dose of Pfizer. Can’t see any reason why they shouldn’t have it so long as it’s after 3 weeks. Anyone else had to deal with this or something similar for another country?

Worsening situation in Eastern Europe

Hungary has seen a surge in cases, with a 6,268 new diagnoses yesterday - more than double the daily figures seen last week.
  • Slovakia has reported a daily record of 6,713 new cases.
  • Poland has recorded more than 15,000 cases in a day for the first time since April.
  • Ukraine surpasses three million COVID cases, after recording record high case and death numbers in recent weeks.

Double dosed to get on a plane or train over here mate.

Yeah. Just hadn’t occurred to us our kids wouldn’t be allowed in without quarantine having had their required jabs here.
Just waiting to speak to NHS to try to get them booked in for additional Pfizer jab. Hoping I dont meet with resistance.
How old are they? I'm sure I read this morning 16-17 are about to be approved for second doses.

Found it (apologies for linking the mail)

17, 15 and 13.

I’ve read that those same ages can get second doses if they live with someone at risk, so it’s not a second dose safety issue. I just think the government decided that because the covid risk was small in kids, single dose would do the trick.

If its not a safety issue I reckon the walk in center might be your best bet if it doesn't become "official" I got my second dose at 6 1/2 weeks instead of 8 no questions asked at the walk in (the etihad wouldnt though)

Fingers crossed for you, I absolutely love Canada but havent been for about 15 years now

Latest round of REACT survey:
- highest ever prevalence (1.7%)
- clearly shows benefit of testing and isolation; the region most affected by the Immensa lab scandal false negatives shows a huge spike.
- prevalence has doubled in over 65s in last month, not just youngsters.

Stay safe blues: get those boosters, get tested and isolate if positive.

I was particularly interested as I was one of those tested this time. I was negative, even though my 16yo son was positive at the time.
