"I will remain a public servant but outside the cruel world of politics."

The unwillingness to accept the judgement, and the clear statements that if he'd held his hands up at any point, then it may have gone in a different manner.
If he'd just taken the suspension, it wouldn't have been this huge thing.

The personal family issues are very sad, and I would hope that there is only sympathy over that aspect.

Of course huge numbers of the electorate will ignore it. They either don't care about politics (but still want a vote) or don't believe the sleaze and corruption impacts on their daily lives.
Agree with this. Most people simply aren't arsed unless they feel it personally affects them. They'll do their bit and put a cross in a box on election day and that's it. I will add that apathy around politics in this country is as high as I can ever remember. We can criticise those who feel that way but to be honest, I don't really blame them. Maybe I'm looking at things through rose-tinted specs but the standard of present day politics is utter dogshit IMO. Of course, this current shower in charge have been a big contributor to that where they really do feel that they can do whatever the fuck they want (only to then completely bottle it whenever they get some stick), but none of the other main parties do that much more for me either. I was that disenfranchised at the last General Election that I turned up at the polling station and proudly scrawled "NONE" across my ballot paper, something I've never done before but am likely to do again.

It is tragic his wife saw suicide as the only way out. However he forgot to mention the corporate interests bunged her a bit of cash too.

He's been told to go to cover up the story about Boris getting another paid jolly that's just come out.

Lord Patterson of Randox cannot be too far away

The suicide is terrible however he only linked it to the investigation when he saw which way the investigation was heading - in June he discussed her passing in depth with Politico but didn't make that link - if he has pushed the line to get sympathy over what has been decided then for me he is an even bigger **** than I thought

Just imagine - a gang of 250 of them just shown up to be a bunch of wankers by their party in less than 24 hours..........

Yeah, and shown up by their boss who ordered them up the hill on Wednesday and were then abandoned on Thursday. Quite why Tory MP’s shred their self-respect in this way, god only knows.

Had to laugh at Kwarteng smearing himself in shit this morning in the media, then having Paterson resign on him.

The by-election should be fun. Slim chance of Tories losing it, which says everything about this squalid party and its voters, but an opportunity to give the Govt a kicking nonetheless.

Plan seems to have been Johnson was using Patterson as cover to go after (read: weaken) the parliamentary standards commissioner (Kathryn Stone), possibly and quite probably because she was also investigating him for the 4th time. The triple backfire here is spectacular - Patterson has fucked off in a huff because he’s realised he was being thrown under a bus, Johnson has pissed off loads of his own party, and made the Tories all the more associated with sleaze. And as a bonus it probably strengthened Stone’s position.

The people who got Johnson into power, the Brexit-voting red wall, simply curl their lips and say "they're all bent" when they hear stuff like this. It's cognitive dissonance and is preferable to them than admitting "I was conned".

Govt in disarray? They never get out of it. There's an argument it's a strategic thing to prevent reflection or let discussion and debate take their course.

If the topic changes every 24 hours with another headline grabbing decision, controversial statement, or dramatic U turn, then the narrative never settles down, and the normal judgment and decision making processes of the electorate never get going.

I've seen it elsewhere, it happens in management, relationships, all sorts. Constant upset and drama, keep everyone spinning in circles to prevent them making the natural decision to get rid of the source of the problem.

Genuine question around if there really are any decent tories. There was a purge at the end of the last parliment before the GE. This lot knew exactly the kind of BS they were signing on to.

I imagine some are pissed that it is so openly corrupt and incompetent. Do they even ask why BJ cant pay for his own wall paper and holidays? Its got to the point of being bizarre.
